Holdem is technically a skills game, according to certain countries and states
The reason is because Texas Holdem is traditionally played with 1 deck of cards, and there are known statistics per hand. It's mathematically possible to have an edge, as-in if everyone plays purely mathematically at a high level then you can move into bluffing or detecting a bluff. This is a lot different than a game of chance like roulette - which does have math, but too much randomness to be a skills game.
In Holdem there is still the randomness of the shuffle, but there is enough gameplay where you can fold, or call a bet, or raise. The real problem with tables is that the casinos often charge a house rake that can really take away from all players' ability to benefit from statistical guarantees. Without a rake, you only have to deal with small/big blind turns, or in some cases a required ante for all as well.
I like Texas Holdem because it's a lot more fun and there's a bigger margin between bad, average, and good players so if you learn a bit and practice you can really profit from players w/ less experience. The best part though is that because its based on math long-term, you can get an edge over an equal or better poker player by developing your social game (or lack thereof), ability to bluff, and to read the room.
I personally don't feel like other games are as good as Holdem. There's something very pure about it imho
