Sony Music has reportedly taken down 135,000 AI-generated “deepfake” tracks from streaming services.

According to the BBC, the “deepfakes” were created using generative AI, with Beyoncé, Queen and Harry Styles among the targeted artists, some of the major label’s biggest signings.

Sony reported its findings on Wednesday, 18th March, at the launch of the music industry’s Global Music Report by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

“In the worst cases, [the deepfakes] potentially damage a release campaign or tarnish the reputation of an artist,” said Dennis Kooker, president of Sony’s global digital business.

“The problem with deepfakes is that they are a demand-driven event. They are taking advantage of the fact that an artist is out there promoting their music. That is when deepfakes are at their worst – building off and benefiting from the demand the artist has created [and] ultimately detracting from what the artist is trying to accomplish,” he continued.

As someone who is very involved in music, I can say AI music is getting better and better, but if they are trying to pretty much pretend to be someone who has already made it within the industry, then get that gone. I am not against AI music. I can say it's a great inspo for some, and it can really be used in the right way. But if people are using it for the worse, I say so be it remove it.

I agree with you only for “inspo” nothing else.

KSHMR (aka The Cataracs) has shared his thoughts on AI in the music industry. At the same time, a huge portion of EDM producers worldwide relies on sound packs and samples he has created.

I would use Ai sound packs personally but I would adapt them to my own. EDM is riddled with AI made music right now sadly.

I remember scandal about this song:

After Spotify took action and removed it, the producer replaced the AI vocals with human vocals.
