Weather Forecast Inaccuracy - Mercury - Jun 18, 2026

Good morning Hackforums,

Is it just me and my general area, or are the weather forecasts completely full of shit these days? I've been working outside alot so far this year and we rely on the upcoming weather forecasts to strategically schedule specific jobs, projects, etc. I'm noticing more and more that the local weather forecasters and even larger, national organizations (like Weather.com) are often inaccurate, even within a couple hours.

I've spoken to some older folks who swear up and down that "back in the day" the weather forecasts were a bit more ironclad. I've also heard that meteorologists are relying on decades old technology in alot of cases that wasn't built for what is realistically our different type of climate in 2026. I'm not sure how true any of that is, just throwing what I've been told and what I've read out there for convenience.

What are your thoughts and experiences regarding this?

Where I live, weather is never right. We just dress to have all four seasons in one, sometimes it’s 20 degrees followed by 20 hours of rain.

It’s just a gamble at this point

Yeah, glad it's not just me. Every other day the weather forecasts predict rain the following day, yet we haven't had rain in over a month.

must be nice. We’ve had rain for about a year minus about 5 days.

I'm from Australia and honestly, I've noticed the same thing. Forecasts here can change within a couple of hours, especially in Melbourne where you can get four seasons in one day. I still check the forecast, but I've learned not to rely on it too heavily for anything time-sensitive.

There are days where they said were going to be rainy and the exact opposite happens. Weather apps are inaccurate many times as well.
