[TuT] Installing Tor on your iPhone/iPod - Stocking - Nov 6, 2010 [TuT] Installing Tor on your iPhone/iPod Just wanted to write a quick guide, so I can start contributing quickly, I've been lurking this board for a while under a different name. So, here we go, Installing Tor on your iPhone! First off, download these packages and save them somewhere. http://adf.ly/B7u0 http://adf.ly/B7u4 http://adf.ly/B7u5 http://adf.ly/B7u9 Now, connect to your iPhone using a SSH File Transfer client, like WinSCP or FileZilla (I'm assuming you all know how to do this, if you don't, post and I'll show you) And navigate to "/private/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall", and upload all four packages. (If you do not have this folder, make it) Now open Cydia and search for "SBSettings", and install it. (If you already have it installed, you don't need to do this) Then reboot your iPhone. After thats done, go to: Settings -> Wi-Fi -> (The arrow next to the network you're using) -> Scroll down and set HTTP Proxy to Manual, set Server to 127.0.0.1, set Port to 8118, and set Authentication to Off, then press the back button in the top left at least once to save the settings (It says "Wi-Fi Networks"). Now slide your finger across the status bar on the top of the screen to open SBSettings, and make sure that Tor is enabled (It will be red if disabled). Now open Safari and go to check.torproject.org If it says "Congratulations. You are using Tor." in green text, you have successfully installed Tor on your iPhone! Happy Anonymous Browsing! If anything goes wrong, just reply and I'll try to help you out. What is Tor?: What Tor is not: Tor WILL NOT give you free internet!! You MUST be connected to a WiFi network! What Tor is: Tor connects to a P2P community network, encrypts your traffic, sends it to a community ran server, and echos it. For example, if you were to load "Google.com", the request would be encrypted, sent to a server that is being maintained by an individual, and then that person's server will request Google.com for you. It will then take in the response, and send it back to you. The server will never disclose where the request originally came from. Thus giving you 100% anonymous internet access. * - Reaper 666 - Nov 7, 2010 :O thanks for your post dude! It works with 4.x? * - Stocking - Nov 7, 2010 (Nov 7, 2010 04:28 AM)Reaper 666 Wrote: :O thanks for your post dude! Yes! I'm using it right now as I post this on 4.1 * - Reaper 666 - Nov 7, 2010 Ok cool I will try. :) Thanks * - xUser - Nov 7, 2010 It's not working for me. I think you need to upgrade the link. * - #cn - Nov 7, 2010 The repository doesn't exist. Replacement? * - Stocking - Nov 7, 2010 Ok, I'll try to get the actual packages, and I'll post those. So you guys don't have to mess with the crappy repository... * - Stocking - Nov 7, 2010 Updated with packages, bypassing the repo. * - Stocking - Nov 14, 2010 Updated the TuT again, if you found it useful, please post! * - Loka~ - Nov 14, 2010 Nice tut, I've heard a lot of pedos use hidden tor sites to watch CP. * - Stocking - Nov 14, 2010 Tor isnt a "site", it's a giant community-ran proxy service. It's great if you live behind the Great Firewall Of China. * - yoyo2u2 - Feb 9, 2011 its not working, i think i need something called polipo. care to upload it? :D * - PiraX - Feb 9, 2011 This isn't working for me either. I uploaded all of the packages to the AutoInstall directory, made sure Tor was enabled, changed my proxy settings, and it says there was an HTTP error anytime I try to use Safari. * - Rockstar797 - Feb 9, 2011 Posted before : https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1042609 Nicely written, btw. * - Shanghai - Feb 9, 2011 (Feb 9, 2011 06:44 AM)PiraX Wrote: This isn't working for me either.
