We are a team of members from the Hack Forums community who are journalists and writers, and we are here to keep you in the loop of the changes around the site and the events happening around the world.
Octoberfest is underway! We have seen a massive increase of activity across the site and, with the event, [mention=1] has announced a giveaway that includes over $2000 worth of prizes to be won. And the award for this year's event has been released, and a few members have already managed to get it twice. If you haven't seen this yet, then it's worth checking out and seeing what prizes are up for grabs this year, and you might even get lucky and get yourself a free $500.
Are you looking to join the HF news team? Do you enjoy making threads or even want to become a better writer? Well, we are looking for members of the site to help write each week and are looking for anyone who has any interest. Octoberfest vibes are in full swing, and @Charlie Sheen@ delivered the perfect utility for the season, a Tampermonkey script that tracks your October posts and threads in real time. With a clean UI, auto-refresh, and Halloween-themed flair, it's the easiest way to monitor your award progress without lifting a finger. An awesome example of coding meets community spirit.
[mention=5680404] launched a game changer - HackForums Dash*, a full API-based dashboard that gives users total control over their HF accounts. From managing bytes and auto-bumping threads to checking contracts and ratings, it's built with security in mind using .official HF API. A sleek, modern automation suite for power users that pushes the forum’s ecosystem forward in a big way.
An intriguing hypothetical sparked by [mention=5699805] what if you literally found a million dollars buried in your backyard? The thread's already filling up with wild takes, from responsible investing to disappearing acts. A classic HF-style mix of imagination, humor, and practical chaos.
Sometimes the simplest threads make for the best reads. A discussion opened up about morning routines and rituals, asking how members set the tone for their day. From gym sessions and coffee habits to coding sprints and meditation, it's a wholesome look at how HF starts its mornings.
Every old-timer on HF has a story or two. From legendary bans to wild exploits and real-life drama, this thread is turning into a living archive of HF lore. If you missed some of the forum's craziest moments, this is your chance to catch up.
It might feel a bit weird to add one of my own, but I shared a personal journey creating a Chrome extension to combat doomscrolling and analyze Facebook posts. What began as a response to dark algorithmic loops turned into a tool for emotional awareness. A raw, thoughtful post that blends mental health awareness with serious tech craft.
Recently we introduced a brand-new section to the HF News. This section will grow over time to more things, but for now we are just going to be doing Song of the week. We are open to what more we could bring to the section from your suggestions, but as a start, we feel adding the song of the week will be a great start for the section and lead the way forward for more things in the future.
Now we know some of you may question what the song of the week is all about, and we have thought of what a great answer. We feel like the song of the week should be a meaningful song that goes deeper than just general music and has meaning to it all. Granted, we may have a little fun with it sometimes. (Yes, we will have a Halloween version and Christmas version too.) But we want to keep it at a level where we have found the song has a true message behind it all and not just something that everyone will just see as another song that is just a bit catchy or got a good few beats to it. We hope this helps those with that question and if anyone has anything that they wish to ask, please feel free to add them below. We are more than happy to give the reason behind it.
A quick little giveaway hosted by jails . All you do is make a post and you're entered!

What a crazy list this week. We can't wait to see next week's list as we know this month is going to be a massive increase in awards each week and each edition. If you haven't managed to get the Octoberfest 2025 Award, then you have the whole month to get it, so get yourself the award and get a shoutout from us!
A timely discussion as Octoberfest kicks off once again. [mention=666] opens the floor with a thoughtful question: should the classic pumpkin award remain an earned badge of honor, or is it fine to make it purchasable too? From 2021 to 2024, the award could only be earned through forum activity, but now, it can be bought outright. The thread captures a mix of nostalgia, practicality, and appreciation that Octoberfest continues at all, even with this new twist.
Octoberfest 2025 is in full swing, and [mention=2436943] starts a simple but fun community check-in: how far are you on the new Octoberfest award? The replies show motivation as members compare their progress. A seasonal thread that keeps the festive spirit going while encouraging everyone to stay active through the month. Jump in and share your progress!
A nostalgic thread where members share the stories behind their usernames. @Poisonleaf@ kicks things off by explaining how their name came from a World of Warcraft character, Frostleaf turned rogue, and the moniker "Poisonleaf" has stuck for two decades. The thread invites others to dive into the origins of their digital identities and reflect on what makes a username memorable - share yours too!
[mention=1763754] continues to raise the bar with another impressive WPF-based NLP project, this time diving deep into semantic similarity analysis. Building upon their previous Token Visualizer tool, this upgraded version goes beyond grammar and explores how sentences relate in meaning - a perfect fit for content discovery during HF's Octoberfest.
Featuring visual graphs, similarity scoring, and detailed code samples, the thread walks you through the process of embedding-based sentence comparison and cosine similarity. It's a masterclass in turning NLP theory into a functional, interactive tool, complete with visual flair and practical insight for anyone curious about machine understanding of language.
Gamers' dream thread unlocked: if you had $100 million to revive a dormant franchise, which one would you choose? The discussion quickly turns into a wish list. It's the kind of thread that sparks passionate debate and reminds everyone why certain series still live rent-free in our minds. Make sure you join the discussion!
In another practical read from this week, [mention=2602549] drops a reality check for developers who think Kafka is just a "cooler Redis queue." Mixing up Laravel Queue and Kafka can burn servers, literally, as one unlucky startup learned after replaying millions of emails twice.
The post breaks it down cleanly: Laravel Queue is your framework's task list for background jobs, while Kafka is an industrial-grade event streaming platform for distributed systems. The takeaway? They can connect, but they serve very different purposes. A must-read for anyone scaling their architecture beyond basic queues.

A new contest has been created this week by [mention=5655318] . He is celebrating hi entrance to the new group Quantum by giving away $100. Make sure to enter!
Music lovers make sure you enter this giveaway to win 5 months of free Apple Music. The OP alleges they're legit codes. Please note: this giveaway is for USA only.

Only on HackForums could a thread about kindness turn into a full-blown debate. This wholesome discussion has already racked up 46+ replies as members nominate - and sometimes jokingly argue - over who deserves the title of HF's kindest soul. Another feel-good moment on the forum that reminds us how awesome the HF community really is.
This news sparked an interesting conversation: what if cutting-edge AI like Grok could be leased for just a few cents?
Turns out, if you're part of a U.S. government agency, that's not far from reality. Grok is reportedly being offered at just $0.42 per agency. The thread blends humor with real-world tech developments, making it one of this week's more thought-provoking reads.
A proposal to evolve HackForums into a smarter, AI-powered content network has revealed that something has already been quietly built. The idea? Use LLMs to generate summaries, link related threads and replies, surface timeless content, and boost discoverability across both forums and blogs. The proposal also includes AI-generated blog posts and contextual replies in active threads. In a promising response, @Omnicient@ confirmed he already has an LLM ready - now it's just a matter of figuring out how best to implement it. This could be a huge leap for HF’s long-term usability and visibility. Got thoughts? Join the discussion and help shape the future of HF!
A thread popped up this week asking members what music they prefer while coding, grinding, or working in general. From lo-fi beats to total silence, HF members are sharing their routines and preferences for staying focused. It's a great way to discover something new or rethink your own workflow. Drop a reply and share your go-to work soundtrack!
The weirdest and most wonderful side of AI was explored in a thread that highlights just how entertaining machine learning can be. From meme generators and deepfakes to cursed cat images and voice cloning, this post dives into the strange tools that show AI isn't just for productivity - it's also pure chaos. What's the weirdest AI-generated content you've come across? Jump in and share your favorite AI fails or creations.

A new contest has been created this week by @W1NK1LL3RX@. They have recently been accepted into The Academy, and they feel like it's time for them to share the love by making a massive $100 BTC giveaway to one lucky winner. Let's make sure to spread the love, and thank them for the contest. The contest ends September 30th, 2025. Make sure you get yourself entered before it's too late.
