Last night (previous 12 hours or so) our tunnel appears to have gone offline. Well technically our connection to the tunnel went offline. Sometimes that happens. When it does some features on the site won't work. Those include Country Lock, IP checking, Avatar Uploads, and Invoices (BTCpay server).

So if you did experience some odd behavior from HF the past 12 hours, that's almost surely the reason.

What is a tunnel? It's a SSH connection to another server to move traffic from HF origin server to outside connections.

Why does HF run a tunnel? It hides our actual IP to prevent direct DDoS attacks. Anytime the HF server has to do an outside server https call it uses the tunnel. For example external API's. This way even if say an API we use has an employee that wants to know HF's IP from the logs, they don't have it.

Why did it go offline? Could be anything, likely some datacenter network disruption that broke the connection.

Oh and takes me 10 seconds to enable the connection again. It goes offline maybe once a year. It's very rare.

Reorganizing the forum structure and I realize the entire Money tab could go under Social tab as a category with 6 subforums similar to how Tech has 4 categories, I can make the Social into IRL (In Real Life) and include the Money category.

Any feedback on that concept?
