I reread your post 3 times and to me you are 110% the problem in this situation. If you had just handed over your license you would have been on your way within 10 minutes. Instead you decided to throw your weight around (probably trying to impress your gf) and waste everyone's time.

He doesn't have to present an ID, especially because the officer refused to explain why the officer was wasting his time by pulling him over without explanation.

Sorry, but you were the asshole.

So because a cop is trained to ask for an ID, citizens should just blindly obey them, even when not legally required?
Officers are also trained to give a reason for a traffic stop - this cop was poorly trained and a corrupt asshole.

The cop is a public servant. That's their job. The officer was wasting taxpayer money pulling people over without reasonable cause and refused to give this guy a reason for the stop, then wasted 35 minutes - time which could have been spent stopping an actual criminal. He wasn't being a dick, he simply asked why he was being pulled over.

The best thing to do is contact a lawyer in whatever state you're in and ask them, they know the law better than Google.

No it doesn't - whether you're in a vehicle or on foot, it's all the same if you haven't violated any law and the officer refuses to explain why you are required to identify yourself.

(Apr 15, 2019 09:23 PM)Peloton Wrote:  Yea, and they don't have to inform you of that reason until they receive your ID. If you don't have warrants, and a valid license why would you refuse to show identification? Honesty goes a long way with cops, bullshit won't always slide.

This is pure logic, if you had a cop who was patient, but also firm. You probably would be in jail right now if you continued to refuse identification.

Not true, you don't have to present identification unless they have reasonable suspicion of a crime.
Where the fuck do you think they take the ID when they go back to their car? They look you up in a system, they can see prior traffic violations, and even have access to your name, date of birth, and address. Imagine the dude looks you up on Facebook, or sits outside on your street waiting for you to leave so he can follow you or harass you further in the future. Just because some asshole cop DEMANDS to see your license, you don't have to comply.

you dont know what he was after so dont be jackass. could of been a car in the area that robbed a store and your car matched the description. people like you are the exact reason there is tension between cops and regular folks in america.

His job also requires him to give a reason for the traffic stop. All he had to do was answer his question and OP probably would have handed it over if it was a good reason. Bad cops are the reason there's tension, and this guy was a bad cop - wasting time, resources, and threatening citizens.

You were the problem here by making his job harder than it has to be, no wonder he was a dick to you. All he was asking for is ID, not like you were doing handbrake turns in the Walmart carpark while screaming profanities out the window, I don't see why you had to make a molehill into a mountain.

Let him do his job, comply, then complain if you have video later.

Obey. Comply. Baaaah *sheep sounds*.
You sound like a fucking beta little bitch.

Never comply with an officer if you don't have to, they're trained to dig for as much information as possible so they can fuck you over.
Never obey an unreasonable command, especially if you haven't even committed a crime or have been informed of the reason for the stop.
Never feel like you're wasting the officers time - they stopped you for no reason, not the other way around.
Always ask for name and badge number of an officer when they get aggressive, and document then report it.

RE: Harassed by LAPD Officer - Suspect. - Apr 16, 2019

Well not sure why you’re so surprised it always seemed to me that cops usually think they are above everyone else i’ve Had my run ins with the police and most of the officers are complete pieces of shit

They think they can do anything they don’t need a probable cause and then when you complain they brush it under the rug cuz it’s all a corrupt system
Can’t beat a corrupt system

RE: Harassed by LAPD Officer - Elara - Apr 16, 2019

I can't wait to deal with these ignorant L.A. police officers everyone talks about when I move out there in September, lmao!

RE: Harassed by LAPD Officer - SIM-3970461 - Apr 16, 2019

LAPD and NYPD do this same shit. I was pulled over literally right after I left a party. Guess they thought I was drunk? Didn't give me a reason why they pulled me over for 0 reason. I wasted their time for 20 minutes and they left. ezClap

Hey... that's American police for you.

RE: Harassed by LAPD Officer - gore - Apr 16, 2019

He was bored. LAPD sucks ass, as do most of the policing agencies in SoCal. Mainly because they have no community engagement and like to bully.
You got off lucky, but for future reference in case it happens again, state that you don't agree but just give him your ID. Not worth the struggle that can ensue if you run into an even bigger asshole than him. Just get his P# and name and make a report regardless. You'd be surprised what IAB actually looks at.

RE: Harassed by LAPD Officer - Lot66 - Apr 16, 2019

What a POS, in Canada they're not allowed to pull you over without probable cause (unless someone called it in), and even then, in Canada the cops are even worse. (US vs CA) is pretty much the same thing except it's not just the blacks, its also the natives. (and every other brown race)
I'm sorry this happened to you.

imma keep it real with you g, after reading your thread history its a bit obvious that your viewpoint is a bit flawed and missing some details

Can't respect behavior like that OP, you're no hero.

You can probably see the situation from his perspective, because statistically, those who hide have a reason to hide. You were hiding your identity for no reason so you begin to wonder why..? Don't act too much out of principles.
