Previously Suggested Ideas - Kewlhotrod - Jan 9, 2010
This is a compilation of many of the major suggestions that have been suggested in the past. To find a suggestion in this thread press CTRL+F and search for a keyword. For instance, if you have a suggestion for "Viewing Your Posts" search "Posts". This will be in no particular order. If there is a mistake, please post here stating which. If you have any suggestions or other happenings/suggestions that you feel I should add, please post or PM me.
Common Questions/Complaints:
I haven't received my HF 1337 yet!
HF 1337 is now activated manually by Omni. It is no longer instant. If you have paid for your 1337 and have not received it within 48 hours, send Omniscient a PM with the transaction ID. Do NOT make a thread.
When paying for 1337, try to make sure you put your HF user-name on the purchase page.
Where do I get HF Ub3r At? Why have I not received it yet?
Currently to purchase Ub3r you have to be accepted by Omniscient directly. Send him a PM requesting Ub3r and he will get back to you in time if you are accepted or not.
If you are accepted:
You will be given a link to purchase Ub3r just like you would HF 1337. Make sure to include your name on the purchase page. If you do not receive Ub3r within 48 hours, follow the guide listed above.
If you are NOT accepted:
You must wait until Ub3r is publicly purchasable. Until then you must settle with HF 1337.
Hackforums Was Down!
Yes. We all know this. Hackforums will go down quite a lot. We are experiencing a lot of MySQL issues, and Omni is hard at work trying to find the root of the problem.
We do not need a thread stating that HF was down. If it was down for any important reason, Omni will make a thread about it.
Quotes and Bracketed Names
This is a common MyBB glitch. If somebody has brackets in their names and they are quoted, the quotation brackets are messed up. This was said to be fixed in the next MyBB release.

New Forum Suggestions
If you want to suggest a new forum/subforum to be created for it, do a search for the main keyword and make sure there are at least 100 or more threads for your forum. If so, copy the search link and make a thread in the Suggestions and Ideas forum. Paste the link in your thread and await a decision.
Past Suggestions:
View Your Posts
This suggestion is regarding a simple link up-top to quickly and easily view all of your posts next to the
View New Posts | View Today's Posts | View Your Threads | Private Messages
links at the top.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
There is already a way to view new posts. Simply click on "UserCP" at the top left, and on that page click your "Post Count" number.
Mobile Browsing Theme
This suggests that a mobile browser theme be added to allow those surfing HF on cell-phones easier access to the site.
This suggestion has been:
ACCEPTED
Reason:
https://hackforums.net/iphone/
There is also a "lite" version that you can activate by scrolling ALL the way down to the bottom and hitting "Lite (Archive) Mode".
Notification When Quoted
This simply suggests that a user be notified via PM, email, or any method of contact when a post of theirs is quoted.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
It's simply resource intensive.
Closing Comment
See Your Posts That Have Been Reported
This suggestion merely implies that a user be able to see any of your posts that have been reported.
This suggestion is currently pending.

New User Pop-Ups
This suggests that all new users are brought to attention a pop-up that tells new users the forum rules, suggestions, and anything important that may be worth reading.
This suggestion has been:
Postponed
Reason:
This has been suggested a few times and no response given. We do not need more threads about it.
Some related threads:
Popup for HF 1337
Popup for new users.
BBCode in Signatures
This has been addressed many times. BBCode characters, (i.e. the [/url] tags), count as characters in the signature. Many suggestions have asked to remove this hindrance.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
There is no reason to clutter a signature with a whole bunch of spam. It's also a MyBB limitation and a pain to code around.
Closing Comment
Thanks Button Removal/Usage
This suggests that something new be done with the "Thanks" button. ATM it is simply a javascript that pops up and states, "Thanks is always appreciated!". Any suggestions suggesting that it either be removed or given an effect of some sort, (A counter for how many times it is clicked for a member), falls into this category.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
People bitched about not having it in the past, and Omni added it as a means to stop the whining. Now people complain that it does nothing. There is a reason the reputation system is in place.
Closing Comment
Click-able Awards
This suggests that awards that a user has links back to the awards page, to that specific award.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
It reduces the amount of resources it takes for a page to load.
Closing Comment
Any New "Report" Categories
These suggestions are thrown out there to add new categories to the report function.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
All rule breakers will fall into some category already listed. If it doesn't, use the "other" option. If it is an entire thread that needs to be reported; report the original post as "other".
Report PM's
This suggests that there should be a report option to report a private message.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
It is much easier on the server and others to simply forward it to a staff member.
Closing Comment
Shout Box
This suggests that a shout box be implemented on the forums.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
We have an IRC channel that does this. Omni has stated that he does not like the look or feel of a shoutbox on the forums.
Closing Comment
Vouch System
This suggests that a forum be created where somebody may post a vouch after a transaction that has taken place in the marketplace.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
We have the rep system in place. We don't need a separate forum.
Closing Comment
Post Limit To Marketplace
This suggests that there be a certain post limit before you are allowed to make a thread in the Marketplace.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason and Related Thread:
This gives the members a view of staff involvement. The staff wants you to use your own discretion when dealing with money on this site. They hold no involvement whatsoever.
Related Thread
Replies to Your Posts
This suggests that there be a button that shows any replies to a thread AFTER your post. An advanced 'subscription', one might say.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
It hogs too many resources and is unneeded in the end.
Closing Comment
1337/Ub3r Marketplace
This simply suggests that there be a specific marketplace only for 1337 and/or Ub3r.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
This gives the false info that there is safety inside this section, which is not true. Anyone has the ability to be a scammer. It also gives the impression that staff encourages deals, and they have opted to stay out of Marketplace deals entirely.
Important Closing Comment
Custom Group Colors/Group Color Preference
These suggestions deal with the color of your user-name once a group is selected. Suggestions to keep a certain group color while having a different group selected, (i.e. having the Purple Ub3r name color while having 'The Alliance' as your display group), and the suggestions to change group colors fall in this category.
These suggestions have been:
DENIED
Reason:
MyBB doesn't allow customization to allow you to have one group as display, yet allow you to keep characteristics of another group;
Closing Comment
And
The group colors will stay as they are because that is the color they have been given. There is no reason for change.
1337/Ub3r Spoiler
This suggests that there should be a spoiler that only 1337/Ub3r can see.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
MyBB apparently has trouble with hidden links.
Read More Here.
Post Requirement for Lounge
This suggests that there be a set post requirement to post in the lounge in an attempt to clean up the spam.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
Many popular/high posted vets spam the lounge. This would simply place restriction of speech and creativity whilst solving nothing.
Closing Comment
Rep Timers
This suggests that there be a timer letting you know when you can give out rep again once the 24 hour limit is reached.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
You really shouldn't be handing out that many rep to begin with. It isn't worth Omni's time to code something so trivial.
Closing Comment
Lowering the Search Time Limit
This suggests that the current wait time be lowered from 30 seconds to anything lower. This has been suggested to be exclusive to HF 1337 and Ub3r as well.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
It is a huge resource hog. 30 seconds isn't too long to wait and really helps the server load.
Closing Comment
Auto-Thread Lock
This suggests that over some time inactive and old threads should be locked automatically to prevent necroposting.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
There are some instances where necroposting is alright. Omni has coded a plugin to warn a user that they are about to necropost and shouldn't do so without a good reason. He has yet to implement it.
Closing Comment
Pay By Phone
This suggests that people be able to pay via SMS/phone for subscriptions such as 1337.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
The cost to allow payment via SMS is extremely high. It triples the normal price. That price would impact the people buying 1337.
Closing Comment
Snippet Of PM In email.
This is basically an Idea stating when you get a notification through email, there should be a snippet, meaning 3-4 sentence long description of what the PM is about.
This suggestion has been:
ACCEPTED
Reason:
Could give the receiver a better understanding of that he is receiving.
Closing Comment
Ban yourself.
It stops your account from having changed passwords, disallowing you to post, give reputation, receive reputation, read PMs, receive PMs or anything else, this helps if you think you're getting hacked. This can't be abused, since you're basically limited + extra limitations.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
The time it takes for you to "lock yourself" you can contact a staff member to do it.
Closing Comment
[Report Abuse] link in reputation
This is basically saying there should be a link on the rep it self saying "Rep Abuse" sending a PM or notification to a staff member.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
I wouldn't do this for fear of a huge amount of false reports everytime someone gets a negative.
Closing Comment
Report PM's
This save times for the staff by checking their PM's, and the user doesn't have to take pictures and everything. It's just a quicker way to report rule breakers.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
It's possible. Not going to code it though and certainly wouldn't implement this even if it was part of MyBB.
Closing Comment
Make threads about being Rep Fucked against the Rules
Stop people from making threads from this being rep fucked to get positive rep in sympathy.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
Generally those that complain get more negs. That's their own problem then.
Closing Comment
Different Xbox Sub-Forums.
The current one has many junky threads that talk about nothing except 100 reaching threads etc.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
Those posts are related to the topic of that Forum.
Closing Comment
Tags for ub3r only.
This idea is basically implying to create tags, what only ub3r could see.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
Too difficult to code.
Closing Comment
Able to play music.
I think we should have a way to upload .mp3 or .wav or some sort of music format so if not on youtube, you can just upload to the site and it would be playable. Do you like the idea?
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
Too many legal issues.
Closing Comment
Profile Playlist
Why not have a profile playlist? Like mixpod or have it linked from somewhere else to HF like have a special box on your page with the border name. Blah's Music and in that box have your mixpod playlist?
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
This is not a good idea. I'm not sure how you really think I would actually believe that.
Closing Comment
Multiple PM quantity should be increased for UB3R
I think the limit for sending a PM to multiple users should be increased to 20
from 5 for ub3rs.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
Regular members are set at 2 per PM. I think 5 is fair enough. This can be abused if it was unlimited too easily.
Closing Comment
Banning Certain Users From Market Place
My suggestion today is to make only certain users able to view/post on the market place.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
HF Staff doesn't get involved with the Marketplace.
Closing Comment
Permissions needed to sell/trade
Well, in this suggestion, I was suggesting that you need 100 posts to actually create a thread in the sellers section/buyers bay/traders topic, and about 50 posts to post there.
This suggestion has been:
DENIED
Reason:
Would be too much spamming.

Well, if it helps reduce spam by even 1%, it's doing something.
But I know what you mean. :)

I need to update a few things, but I can't. It's 'too long'. :/

Omni doesn't have access to Transaction IDs because you pay Reg.net and Reg.net pays Omni, so Transaction IDs are different.
