6 years feedback. The positive. The negative. - 'Snorlax - Jan 13, 2015

A bit about myself
I created my user here about 6 years ago. Since then has been.. good and bad. I had about 2700 reputation and 16-17 awards before they were taken away (more about that later). My online time currently says 9 Months, 3 Weeks, 4 Days, 4 Hours, 58 Minutes, 27 Seconds as I am writing this thread.
I have gotten quite a lot of unique friends here, and some I even chat with every single day through Skype or Facebook. That's the best feature we can have here on Hack Forums. Friendship.

I first started joining groups for real when Beacon was around. I remember making about 250 or 300 posts in like two weeks in the Minecraft section, just to get an invitation from Dan. Those were definitely some of the best days on Hack Forums.
I have later gotten invited to a lot of groups, which I have either left or been kicked from. The best group I have ever been in, has to be The Empire. The bond each member had in that group.. that's unique. I do not think I'll ever experience something like that again, but I sure do hope. Now I do my duties as a HF News compiler, which is an okay job. It's what motivates me to keep staying on Hack Forums, because the rest of the groups I am currently in (Titans and The Brotherhood) doesn't require me to do anything. I am only in Titans because I am coding something from them, so that's a big plus I guess.

I have been trying to stay off Hack Forums for long times (as you may notice, I do not post 20 posts per day anymore), but I have an urge to come back. Something's telling me I have an addiction, but I am too blind to see it. Just refreshing the UserCP checking for new PMs, new replies on my threads, and stuff like that. Though, nothing will be as it was before.

Hack Forums has taught me many, many things. Before Hack Forums I didn't know how to code. I didn't make any money. My English wasn't that great. But after 24,000 posts (which is probably closer to 40,000 because of prunes.. yeah, the The Empire prune) my English is finally.. better. At least better than it was when I first joined in 2009.

Userscripting
Oh boy. This is something I have loved since Emylbus and I started together (afaik). Xerotic made these awesome userscripts, and I wanted to make some too, but I didn't know how to code. I started learning Javascript but later moved on to jQuery (which I still use almost daily). I guess you could say I am pretty serious about this, as I have released close to 40 userscripts and probably made 20-30 in private to other members. At first, userscripting was super freaking cool. It still is. But holy moly. I created some userscripts for the new XMPP stuff, which adds a few buttons to the profile of the user, which you can check out right here (do not install it). Omni quickly sent me a message, telling me not to create any of these scripts anymore, as he already planned to create all these. And there ya go, he actually added the ones I created to the site as features. Hooray.

I suggested we could get a new “feature” implemented (more on that later), but when I mentioned I already had an userscript for this, Omniscient wrote this on my thread “I'd like to see the code on your userscript to see what you are running. I just have a feeling that your userscripts are responsible for a lot of bullshit overhead on the server resources”. I got bashed for no reason, but I do not really care. None of my scripts do anything bad.
Another good one. I know a lot (and I mean.. LOT) of you guys like userscripts. They help enhance the site in a way, which isn't possible to do, unless you have admin rights to do whatever you want. Ain't. Gonna. Happen. I asked if I could create a thread, where members could request their own userscripts. If I like it and I think others will, I will of course publish it for other's enjoyment as well. I was given a big fat nope, which is kinda sad. I know members like these userscripts, and they cause no harm, because I am smart enough to think about the features I create. I will not create notification checkers which updates the page every 2 seconds, because that will create a massive overhead indeed. Userscripts help me get better at coding and it helps other people getting more features they want.

My reputation reset and award removal
This is some tough shit. I'll give you a TLDR; read this thread. Too long? Do not read it and skip to the next chapter.
Read this, this, this, this, and this for some funny shit.
This was the worse shit that has ever happened to me on Hack Forums. I was in a good mood and all. Trying to grab some extra awards and stuff like that. I messaged Omni about removing two of my awards. I should not have done that. Sure he removed two of them, but also two others (Cool and DaBomb). I got mad at him, he got mad at me, and well, long story short.. My reputation got reset and I lost all the awards. But hey, I got the Diamond award! Yeah, that.. no. I'd rather go back in time, but now I regret what I tried. No words can describe how that felt, after donating 500+ dollars for awards, after sending physical items, and all that shit. To lose all that over something everyone else apparently does (do not regret you haven't seen other people getting their awards removed).. that's shit.
I took a 6 months vacation ban right after I wrote this, but Omni unbanned me and apologized. I still bug about this today, which is why I'm not that active anymore.

Time to get serious. I'll list what I think is good and bad about Hack Forums, and I do not care if you disagree.

The positive
HF's XMPP
I think it's a great feature. I do not use it because I think the clients are shit, but that's all my fault.

The All Help page
This was actually suggested by me. If you haven't checked it out, you better do it right now. CTRL+F and search through the entire help doc.

The New 3P1C Feature
This is the shit. I used to buy moderator in Polymath's private forum just to get rid of the PM flood time. This is genuinely one of the best features of 2014.

The negative
The new and improved ignore feature
Holy. Fucking. Shit. If you want to piss someone off, go ahead and piss them off then add them to your ignore list. If you are UB3R, the person will not be able to view your profile AT ALL. This is so useless because you can still view the member's posts, threads, etc. but you cannot contact them, view their online time, join date, and what they're doing. Stuff like that. So what is it good for? Pissing people off? Troll feature? Anti-Stalk? Yeah, I bet that's it. This is so hilarious it's stupid.

THIS
Implement this already. We have it on all pages except the Your Posts page. I made this suggestion, because it helps mobile users A TON when replying to threads. If you post something but want to read the last unread post, you have no other option but to read through all the posts you've already read, then trying to remember which posts you did and didn't read. The &action=newpost is on Your Threads, UserCP, when viewing a forum, View New Posts, and so on. It's EVERYWHERE but Your Posts. I am almost tempted to install MyBB then recreate the thread with a copy-paste solution. It has been done in Javascript, which I already use through an userscript.

P0W3R
Yeah, this shit is older than my chest hair. The new 3P1C usergroup is great. Damn I enjoy the features we have. Back when P0W3R was being developed, Omni had a plan to add 5 reputation power instead of 3, as well as increasing the amounts of reputation you can give per day to 10 (instead of like.. 5? 6?).

2FA
This needs to be added already. The account security on MyBB is the worst crap ever. If someone has your password or gains access to your mail -> Boom instant access to your account. We see all these scammers trying to scam members. We see accounts getting jacked. All this could be prevented, if we could get 2FA on HF. Nobody can use the excuse "But I got hacked", when they got framed for scamming. Nobody can take over your account and repfuck people (yeah Omni). This would also stop many people from worrying about their accounts getting jacked.

AnimeFAN!
🤣

Overall, HF is a fine fucking website. I have never seen anything like it. The friendship, the hatred, all the different subjects. That's what makes Hack Forums Hack Forums. Sometimes we all get cranked up and our gears get all grinded, but do not forget the many years of entertainment and happiness.
I want to say thanks to all the members who help make Hack Forums what Hack Forums is. You guys are amazing and won't be forgotten anytime soon.

Thank you.

I agree with most, if not all, the points you made for positives and negatives. 2FA being #1 priority, it needs to be implemented for a large forum like this.

I absolutely agree with 2FA being #1 priority.

So did Omni ever tell you why he did it, or is that question still unanswered to this date?

As written on his apology thread, it was "I was expecting him to apologize and ask that I fix his awards. He didn't.". The rest was just from stress and so on.

Eventhough HF seems to be more active then ever, things are going downhill. Groups used to be interesting. I remembered when Polymath started we had 500-1000 posts in a couple of days. Same to other groups as well although not as much. Now a new group started and they barely make it to the 20th page. I am sure a lot of people would agree there is a sudden lost of interests for groups because most of the new owners are busy selling it or trying to do buyins.

That's my opinion too.

Overall interesting read though, lets go for another 6 years? 🎉

I agree. Polymath was crazy hyped. Good times.

The empire wasn't that bad either because the members were crazy about the group.I just don't get this stupid phoenix shit Tibit started. Wtf they do except offer advices no one really cares? Or trying to be HQ. The Empire was much better than Phoenix.

Imo complexity was practically a shit group, but it is more active than half the new groups we have right now. They were at least doing something.

* - ZuGgY - Jan 13, 2015

Good feedback 'Snorlax. I wish I made an account here way earlier, and yeah I remember the time of you having almost all the awards not too long ago. :P

Most groups now do nothing good in my opinion. I see nothing being contributed. If I were to start a group, I would have a perfect plan for a contributing group, but I don't have 7000+ dollars.
