Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - Hydra - Oct 24, 2017 ![]() Vast changes incoming Yesterday, October 20th, our administrator Omniscient announced that big changes will be made to Hack Forums in the upcoming week. Because of this you may expect the website to be offline a lot, either as closed or simply returning a 403 error. More information about the specific changes that are going to be happening will undoubtedly follow in the near future. >>Source Thread EDIT restriction removed As many of you might already know, for a brief period Omniscient added restrictions to the thread EDIT feature. The reason behind this was simply to end the continues thread EDIT abuse by members every day. Thread abuse was done by deleting content from older threads to "erase footprints" or for other reasons, which hurt Hack Forums SEO. The restriction prevented members from editing their threads if it was older then a set amount of days. Yesterday however, Omniscient decided to lift the restriction again, after which several major changes to the website followed. You can read more about those below. >>Source Mentor site group deleted Last night our administrator Omniscient made a thread in the Rules, Announcements, News and Feedback section stating the mentor group had been deleted. No specific reason has been given for this change at this time. >>Source Hack Forums IM Deleted Yesterday night we were notified by Omniscient that he would be deleting the Hack Forums IM service. This is the xmpp service that was specifically designed to be used for instant communication between HF members. No specific reason has been given for removing this service although it was known that the service itself was rarely used within the community. The newly launched hacker.im service, which is a public xmpp service for HF users and others alike, will still continue to exist. >>Source Forum Tabs Deleted Among the changes that were made last night by our admin Omniscient was the removal of the forum tabs. Omniscient made a thread saying "We will no longer have the tabs on HF". >>Source
Purple HF Theme Deleted Another change that was made yesterday was the removal of the Purple Theme option. Many users used this theme as they preferred it over the standard "Modern Blue" theme. For now we don't know if we will be getting another new or possibly revamped theme in the future however we do know Omniscient had a liking to the widely used "Flat Darkness" theme made by iHydra >>Source UB3R Support and Meme Shit Meme sections Deleted Yet another change that was made in recent days is the deletion of the UB3R Support and Meme Shit Meme sections. No reason has been given for the removal of both sections however it's safe to assume they were removed as one of the changes Omniscient had in mind for the new HF. All Non-Essential Moderators Removed In light of recent changes all non-essential moderators have been removed. This includes but is not limited to (sub)forum moderators and site groups with special permissions such as the mentors group. In the thread where Omniscient announced this change, he also mentioned he will consider new moderators and other options as we go forward. Furthermore he said "We need a clean slate on a lot of HF.". >>Source HF Writers Group and Wiki Deleted The final change we will report in this weeks news edition is the removal of the HF Writers group along with the HF Wiki. Both the group and the wiki have been deleted by Omniscient and are said to be done for. As this is a major change for the very news and the people behind it, we would like to make it known that even without the group we will continue to bring the news to you each and every week. This of course assuming we have the permission to keep doing so by the administrator. >>Source RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - Hydra - Oct 24, 2017 ![]()

RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - Hydra - Oct 25, 2017 ![]() Welcome to MyBB 1.8x Let me first say that I'm very excited with what the future of Hack Forums entails. MyBB 1.8x opens the oppurtunity for more custom features to be created by Omniscient. We got cool features like the ability to add a poll to a thread within 12 hours of posting the thread and edit reason but the features Omniscient can create now that MyBB 1.8x brought a better (but still buggy) foundation to work with is what everyone should be excited for. However, we should also understand that the forum is still under development. Lots of work needs to be done and it'll take 1-2 weeks or so according to Omni so let's try our best not to bother him too much. I keep seeing the same threads over and over: quit it. We don't need 20 threads talking about how shit or awesome the theme is or how we want the ability to add avatars. Future of Writ3rs Many of you have raised the question if Writ3rs is returning. No clue, I'm in the same darkness you all are. Omniscient will decide eventually. What I do know is that Writ3rs won't continue unofficially. The work we do, the hours we volunteer, it just wouldn't work efficiently enough without a subforum for us to privately post our sections in. No, pastebin and Discord isn't enough. If Writ3rs isn't back by this coming Monday, expect another short edition until the ruling has been revealed. Till then, shoutout to all the members who worked on this edition and to those who support us every week. RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - Froggy - Oct 25, 2017 I like the new formatting of the Group News. Thank you to Cylow for the suggestion. RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - SIM-3658605 - Oct 25, 2017 Sexy new formatting. I love it guys! RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - Views - Oct 25, 2017 Hope to see writers return at some point even if it just the News team, even if interest in the News has declined the work you & the other members have put in has not. Nice to see everyone put in work to get an edition out this week anyways. RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - Saltpeter - Oct 25, 2017 I get knocked down, but I get up again, ain't never gonna keep me down! We've never missed a week and we won't start because of some minor site breaking bugs. It's nice having our usual weekly news in all this chaos recently. RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - EddyProject - Oct 26, 2017 Hopefully the News finds a place to operate efficiently. Best of luck. RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - SIM-1729678 - Oct 26, 2017 Would it be possible to change the "harmony buy-ins" to Faces and Fidelity buy-ins, people are not buying into harmony itself. RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - Baby Groot - Oct 26, 2017 Great to the edition actually out week in and week out still. The new and upcoming changes will only be the better for HF and for us! RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - 'Ryan - Oct 26, 2017 Aww that memo for sure gave me the feels. New group formatting is very nice. RE: Hack Forums News // Edition 366 - Vitani - Oct 26, 2017 I actually love this edition. It's short and sweet and just the sections I usually read. With or without official group, let's keep this running for a long time! |
