Is it possible to boot Windows 10 from Caddy SSD? - Transporter007 - Oct 7, 2018 I am purchasing new laptop which comes with DOS and I dont want to open screws etc of laptop to change Harddrive into SSD. I have Samsung 840 PRO SSD. So, is it possible if I install Windows 10 on SSD and boot it from Caddy instead of Harddrive? Edit: If I change to CD/DVD boot first from boot menu in BIOS than may it work ? Double Edit: Purchasing Lenovo Ideapad 130 (15) or Lenovo V330 (15) Regards. RE: Is it possible to boot Windows 10 from Caddy SSD? - Xycon - Oct 8, 2018 It would defeat the purpose of a SSD really, the speed would be limited to that of what most likely a USB 3 connection. And you should be able to replace the HDD easily. Warrenty should not be an issue either. With most vendors the rest of the laptops system would still be covered by the warranty. The SSD just wont be covered under the systems warranty, the SSD would still have its own warranty though. If any damage appears to the rest of the system caused by the SDD then that damage wont be covered by the system warranty. If for example the GPU dies it would still be replaced, unless it was caused by the SSD somehow, which is like a 1 in a billion chance. Well, that's how some warranty work anyways, not all, you'd have to check. If anything take out the useless disc reader and pop in the SSD there. You'd have SSD/boot and HDD/storage.
