Gunma-chan Prefectural Mascot Character Gets Anime
A video featuring the prefectural mascot character Gunma-chan and voice actresses (and Gunma natives) Aya Uchida and Yui Ogura was streamed on the official YouTube channel of Gunma Prefecture on Jan 28th.
The video revealed that the Gunma-chan character would have an anime.
The current pony mascot debuted as the "Yūma-chan" mascot for a sports competition in 1994 and became the prefecture's Gunma-chan mascot in 2008. It replaced an earlier Gunma-chan design that the prefecture has used since the 1980s. >>Source

Yubisaki kara no Honki no Netsujō Firefighter Romance Anime Gets 2nd Season
The ComicFesta Anime brand announced on Monday that Yubisaki kara no Honki no Netsujō: Osananajimi wa Shōbōshi, the anime adaptation of Tanishi Kawano's Yubisaki kara no Honki no Netsujō ~Kyara Otoko Shōbōshi wa Massugu na Me de Watashi o Idaita~ manga, is getting a second season that will premiere in July. The second season is titled Yubisaki kara no Honki no Netsujō 2: Koibito wa Shōbōshi (Fire From My Fingertips 2: My Lover is a Firefighter). >>Source

Funimation Makes Spanish, Portuguese Language Options Available in English-Speaking Territories
Funimation announced on Monday that its streaming service will add Spanish and Portuguese subtitles and dubs for the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Ireland on February 3. The addition will include subtitled content for shows such as Fruits Basket and Cowboy Bebop, and dubs for "fan favorites," including My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, Overlord, Assassination Classroom, Blood Blockade Battlefront, and Tokyo Ghoul.
Funimation announced the service's expansion to Mexico and Brazil at its FunimationCon 2020 online event last July. >>Source

Sentai Licenses Nana TV Anime
Sentai announced on Tuesday that it has licensed the NANA television anime series and will release it in high definition. The company is planning to release the series through digital outlets and later on home video.
Sentai describes the story:
Two twenty-somethings seemingly share nothing in common apart from their first name, but a chance meeting on a train bound for Tokyo sets Nana Komatsu and Nana Osaki on a collision course with destiny. Nana Komatsu, a love-at-first-sight dreamer, aims to find enduring happiness in the big city. Nana Osaki, neo punk rock vocalist, pursues her burning ambitions of musical stardom and worldwide fame. As their fates increasingly intertwine, they each chase their dreams — until the harsh realities of life in big city Tokyo threaten to tear everything apart.
The anime premiered in Japan in 2006. Viz Media previously released the series on DVD, and Netflix and Hulu previously streamed the series. >>Source

DOGE Touches the Moon
Dogecoin, the cryptocurrency based on the Shiba Inu dog breed, saw astronomical growth on January 28 and January 29. The coin leaped from less than one cent to just under eight cents. It then experienced some decline and ended up at around five cents, as of the time writing. At its peak, the market cap reached about ten billion dollars, setting new highs for what would be considered a meme coin. This comes after incredible growth in the stock market for both Gamestop and AMC Entertainment, fueled by Reddit users from the subreddit WallStreetBets. Following their footsteps, users on the SatoshiStreetBets subreddit encouraged others to invest in Dogecoin and hold it. Those investors are causing the currency's price to increase, and many think it is possible to reach one dollar. Skeptics doubt this due to the current circulating supply. If Dogecoin were to hit one dollar, it would mean that the digital currency's market capitalization would be about $128 billion, putting it at a similar level to Ethereum. >>Source

Reddit Partners With the Ethereum Foundation
On January 27, Reddit administrator Jarins posted in the Ethereum subreddit announcing a new partnership. It would see Reddit "increasing [their] commitment to blockchain" and moving towards decentralizing parts of Reddit, or at least that is what many of the platform's users hope for. In 2020, the company introduced Community Points, a novel idea that indicated a focus on incorporating cryptocurrencies into the website. The idea behind the feature was to reward users for their content and give back to those who make posts and comments that others like. At the same time, it would also increase user activity and motivation to post. Community Points was trialed in the cryptocurrency and Fortnite subreddits on the Rinkeby network, one of the Ethereum testnets. Following the success, the company shall be working closely with the Ethereum Foundation to "help accelerate the progress being made on scaling and develop the technology needed to launch large-scale applications like Community Points on Ethereum." >>Source
