Which one should I get? I've never used Linux before only OS X (which I know OS X is based off)
So which one would be more user friendly?

Personally I would opt for Netrunner http://www.netrunner-os.com/ rather than either Mint or Ubuntu. Netrunner's default configuration includes apps installed which provide better out of the box support for the various file formats you are likely to come across than either Mint or Ubuntu while still having less bloat and better performance than those despite it being based on the same Ubuntu distro in the case of the non rolling Netrunner release. The rolling Netrunner release is based on Manjaro and Arch distros.
I recommend using the x86 Live .iso which are available for pretty much any distro you might be interested in so as to get a feel for it first without having to commit to anything until you are actually ready to make changes to your machine. You can if you wish install to a HD from a Live distro .iso at anytime or continue to use it as a Live, non persistent O/S. The x86 Linux distros have no 4GB RAM licensing limitation so unless you actually need the massive linear address space advantages of a 64bit O/S on Intel architectures the x86 kernels and their 64GB hardware segmented address space have less overhead and resource usage than their x64 counterparts even on 64bit capable machines. Use either LinuxLive Creator http://www.linuxliveusb.com/ OR YUMI http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multib...b-creator/ to write the .iso to USB Flash media and Live running. Both tools are supported for Windows or Linux O/S. BTW OS X is a certified UNIX O/S, NOT Linux. Linux is not Unix, it is merely crafted to be Unix like 🙂 Take care (Jul 29, 2015 06:30 PM)Clam Wrote: Ubuntu has a nice UI. I prefer to use it. Uh? Distributions come with something called Desktop Environments, you can install any DE on any distribution with the correct packages. Linux Mint is what I use and it runs perfectly fine. I use the MATE DE and never had a problem with it.
