Evening HF,
I'm purchasing a virtual item for roughly $900, but before I sent the money to the seller, I'm just looking to protect myself should the user scam me and not deliver said product which is a potential risk with this deal.
Any advice is much appreciated, and if needed, I can give some content of the time if it'll make any difference.
Thank you!
If you look at the positive side, PayPal is still better than crypto in your case. I have seen people winning the chargebacks more often, and PayPal protects the person who sends the money in some manner. However, make sure you leave a note in the PayPal or ask the seller to share the virtual item once you send the 50% of the payment, and send the remaining once you are satisfied or have received the product/service.
You can typically chargeback on PayPal, but you could always use a middleman

This is such bullshit. I make someone a web project, send the stuff and can claim they didn't get it or it isn't as described. No PayPal rep is going to go through tens of thousand lines of code in order to verify my claims, they'll just slide with the buyer.

It was a blast being on staff. I stepped down as it's time for me to move on. I wish you all the best and if you were hit by my warnings and/or bans, it was nothing personal.
Peace out!

Sadly PayPal will always side with the buyer. In your case it's beneficial for you to use them in case you do get scammed. You can easily chargeback the money if the deal goes south.

Just use a middleman, or alternatively just chrageback if you do happen to get scammed.
You don't have to worry about buying virtual goods honestly its really easy to win the dispute should the seller fail to deliver said item
You can just make him go first or use middleman, but tbh gaypal always sides with buyer and since its a virtual good you'll most likely win if he does scam u...
Send as G&S, and fund it via bank or card so if you fail a paypal dispute, u can chargeback.
Just pay regular, not gift, use a credit card as well.
If paypal denies your claim, credit card company will still refund you especially with virtual transactions like this
Does credit card company always side with the client? I heard some banks are crucial about it and not always side with it. Big banks vs Small banks
Are you trying to learn how to scam? very unethical sir
