I play a lot of League of Legends. Others around the forum play different games, but as for League of Legends you could host a custom game. It could be 1v1 all the way up to team playing as far as 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5.

Sticking with major titles seems to be a solid way to get participation. I'd say call of duty, fifa, runescape, league, open to other suggestions.

Stuff like knockout brackets, random loadout challenges, or speedrun races could be fun.

One thing that I miss is creator contests, things where the wildest and coolest structures get judged etc. This could be done in Conan or Rust (RP) and the contest itself would most likely not be that great to look at but the results, hell, that could be interesting. Vanilla (or 2x) servers with no mods, the timelimit would be a week or two and after it all a bunch of people would have to rate and vote etc on the best bases based on what ever.
