More states implementing LPR's - Privacy Concerns??

These have been popping up in multiple counties in my state and neighboring states, and I am curious to see HF's thoughts on them

Personally, I don't have any pressing concerns with it.

First off, my county at least has had live feed cameras all over the county and state. All the concerns about tracking my movements could already have been occurring with the existing systems.

Secondly, its literally public space, so I always assume someone is watching. Not to mention that that handheld device in your pocket is has an even more high chance of being tracked (with much more detail) than my license plate or features of my car. Data always has a value, but my search history, GPS/Cell Tower history, and social media tendencies are much more valuable than my license plate and the color of my car and that it has a dent on the bumper.

Now I do understand and have the slight fear of misuse of the system, but that is the case of any system. Use HF for example, Omni could do whatever he wants with all the data we post on here - sell it, alert the FBI, add hundreds of trackers to the site - all of which we just need to trust he does what is ethically right. Again, something more local to each user, your cell provider. Verizon has a record of every tower your phone touches, and on top of that could possibly also have access to your phone's GPS. Verizon literally track you anywhere you go as long as you have your phone and it has service (CSLI). Why are we worried about a camera that is stationary reading my license plate and frequency of occurrences, but not worried about the location beacon in our pockets?

Just seems silly to me, especially when states already have live feed cameras, speed cameras, police car mounted LPR's, and more that have been around for years without issues.

Interesting take and honestly, I'm pretty indifferent about the whole thing too.

I get why some people might be concerned, but like you mentioned, a lot of this tech has been around for a while in one form or another. We got traffic cams, cell tower pings, GPS data we give through the apps, so plate readers are not exactly a game changer.

We should keep an eye on how systems like this are used (or potentially misused), but it's not something I'm losing sleep over tbh.
Since I'm online and carrying a phone, I'm already being tracked more than I realize, so...

We have them in the county I live in, and the surrounding states. Personally it doesn’t bother me. My plates are always up to date, so I really don’t have anything to worry about.
