[Dog people] Would you consider getting a second dog before your first one goes away?

Exactly what the title says.

I can't decide if I'll need some company to cover the loss or if I want to mourn and never get so close again

Never before.

Your current dog will understand that is their replacement.

If you want to get a dog after, go for it. I know it helps some people, but honestly it's just not the same.
I think two dogs are good but at the same time. Like he said they're smart and they know they're being replaced. Having two to play with each other is different though if they're the same age. Personalities are always so vastly different between pets that there are no replacements. Just like if you lost your best friend to some tragedy and then made a new friend. They can help fill a hole but never going to be the same thing.
No way, it will be very difficult to get over this loss a second time.

I have 2 dogs and i love them to bits they are best when you have 2 easier and when you loose one it is not so hard to mourn than if you have only one dog...
When my wolf she died thankfully i had other 2 dogs so it was easier on me i cant imagine my life without animals honestly
Definitely yes.

Losing a dog is brutal, but you've got so much love left to give that another pup would be lucky to have it. Getting a second one sooner lets the first "mentor" the new one and eases the transition when the time comes. I did it and it helped me but of course everyone is different.
