"Hero Dad" saved His Children From Freezing Charged with Torture.

Dad Hailed a Hero for Protecting His Children in Freezing Weather Charged with Aggravated Child Abuse and Child Torture

A Utah father who was previously hailed as a hero for protecting his three kids in frozen weather is now charged with child torture.

Smith, his 8-year-old daughter, his 4-year-old son and 2-year-old son were reported missing and rescued a day later. Two of the kids were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

In a since-deleted GoFundMe, Smith was said to have "bravely sacrificed himself" to protect the children.

Now, Smith is charged with child torture.

When the 4-year-old arrived at the hospital his temperature was 62.6 degrees and he later suffered a stroke and needed a portion of his skull removed.

Avideo from that day found on Smith's phone captures the 8-year-old asking, "Are we going to freeze to death, daddy?,"

When the group was found on the trail, the children were standing alongside a boulder with a few sticks stacked against it to provide wind cover. It was noted that the children were not wearing much clothing, and the 2-year-old was underneath the 4-year-old.

When the 8 year old shared that she was getting scared, Smith answered, “You shall not pass.”

The father had previously told people he was suicidal.

It was maybe a negligence in part from the Dad I think.

But he cared and care for his children. Authorities being too harsh?

The children had very little clothing and when the 8 year old said she was scared and asked if they would freeze to death her father quoted the Lord of the Rings shouting "You shall not PASS!"
Being suicidal is negative as it is, but dragging others down in the process is so fucking immoral. I remember a tragedy, in the US I believe, caught on news cam, of a scumbag who stopped on a bridge with his dog in the car. After dousing the inside of the car with a fluid, the car started to burn, but he couldn't endure the fire and got out of the car himself leaving the poor dog to suffer and burn to death. He then took a firearm (a shotgun I think it was) and blew his brains out.

Why couldn't he just kill himself and leave the innocent dog somewhere. The scum who tortured the children is the same kind of person.

Sorry for the rant.

Mass murderers are usually the same and most family annihilators. They are so angry as well as sad and depressed, they feel like nothing but they don't even make it about the people who made them feel like nothing and get revenge, instead they make it about people in general. Or even the family pet as well they never felt that they could affect anything in their lives so they want to affect someone else as they die and finally feel some power as they die. Yes so grossly immoral and disgusting. And you know I thought maybe poverty was part of that but then you see Stephan Paddock. And the Columbine boys both had upper middle class parents as well and were spoiled being able to buy any merch of favourite celebrities and stuff.

Stephen Paddock was a whale as a gambler he was a multi millionaire still when he died although he'd lost several million gambling he still had a net worth of 5 million when he died made in real estate and gambling. He was bitter that his Filipino girlfriend was probably with him for his money still he flew her back to the Philippines and bought her a $250,000 house there before his mass murder in some form of protection.
It sounds like he wanted this to end up being a catastrophe where everyone would mourn the loss of him & the kids.

It'll be interesting to see if he took out life insurance

I can't find anything about that, but doesn't mean it's not the case. This guy took a TWO year old and a FOUR year old on a hike considered difficult and not for children or beginners. The other child was only 8. The father used the unconscious four year old to cover the body of the two year old when they stopped and he made a rough shelter with sticks. How on earth was a two year old climbing over falling rocks and hanging onto vegetation?

The thing I'm focused on is the previous attempts for there to be an emergency:
Quote:On Nov. 10, weeks after he and his children went missing on their hike, Smith was found accused of trespassing at Primary Children’s Hospital and interfering with his 4-year-old son’s medical care and tampering with equipment.

Crazy stuff, I feel the most bad for the girl who is going to vividly remember this whereas the 4 and 2 year old may not.

I get your point for real, but the four year old had a stroke and lost part of his skull? For some reason part of his skull had to be removed and they had to put in a drain.
I dont understand very well this post

This dad wants to suffer and he takes his childs with him to suffer also ?

If so this people are the biggest idiot and criminals .He should not be judged for child abuse and something more worse and should be prisoned for life

This man from Utah is facing child abuse and torture charges after authorities said he took his three young children on a difficult hike during a snowstorm.

“Not an easy hike that you would take a child upon,” Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said.

I think he was one of those incredibly selfish people that while miserable is also really angry so if he is depressed enough to die he wants to take others along too. Also he maybe wanted to harm the children's mother through them. He texted her that he was sick of carrying the two year old.

Prosecutors allege the torture was a deliberate act of endangerment linked to domestic issues.
Smith, his 8-year-old daughter, 4-year-old son, and 2-year-old son, began hiking the strenuous Broads Fork trail in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, on October 11, 2025. He reportedly did not check the weather forecast and continued hiking despite a significant storm moving in.
The Ordeal: The family was caught in freezing hail and snow conditions overnight. The children were inadequately dressed, and a video found on Smith's phone allegedly recorded one of them asking, "Are we going to freeze to death, daddy?" while he ignored their pleas to turn back.

He was later trespassed from the hospital for allegedly interfering with his four year old son's medical care and tampering with equipment.
