Option 1 – WhatsApp Web (clean but manual)
This method avoids WhatsApp export files entirely and gives you readable text.
Open WhatsApp Web on a desktop browser
Link the iPhone via QR code
Open the target chat
Scroll all the way to the top and wait a few seconds so the full history loads
Select the messages and copy/paste into a document or text file
Pros:
- No ZIP files
- No export headers
- No system metadata
- Very clean output
Cons:
Slow for very large or multi-year chats
Requires manual scrolling
Option 2 – iOS export + stripping (fastest for huge chats)
This is the fastest way if the conversation is years old.
On the iPhone:
Chat → Contact Info → Export Chat → Without Media
You’ll get a ZIP with a .txt file containing the full conversation.
It includes WhatsApp system lines, but those can be stripped cleanly.
Below is an actual working example. Create a python file in the same directory as the chat.txt or rename the chat.txt in the script.. whichever works best...You can call it whatever you want if clean_whatsapp.py then the following command will run it..
python clean_whatsapp.py
Code
import re
INPUT_FILE = "chat.txt"
OUTPUT_FILE = "chat_clean.txt"
system_patterns = [
r'Messages to this chat are now secured',
r'changed the subject',
r'changed this group's icon',
r'added',
r'left',
r'joined',
r'created group',
r'You deleted this message',
r'You missed a (voice|video) call',
r''
]
with open(INPUT_FILE, "r", encoding="utf-8") as f:
lines = f.readlines()
cleaned = []
for line in lines:
if any(re.search(p, line) for p in system_patterns):
continue
cleaned.append(line)
with open(OUTPUT_FILE, "w", encoding="utf-8") as f:
f.writelines(cleaned)
This outputs a clean, readable text file with:
Full chat history
No system messages
No encryption notices
No media references
Summary
WhatsApp Web is best for smaller chats where you want manual control or iOS export + stripping is best for very large or long-running conversations
Both are decent options

looks like the web version wont display older messages like the previous years , they ask you to refer to your phone...
Exporting via phone have a chance of corruption I tried it , and yea extracting it halfway ended up to be corrupted. Is at least like 15GB above lol....
