Well I spent the last 24 hours working to get the bugs worked out of the system that have caused the kernel panic, sql connection errors and giving us downtime. I have updated more software, made a ton of tweak, and I think I have it all locked in now.
If all goes well the next week then I can assume the server is back to running at tip top shape. Since our traffic continues to grow and I make adjustments for certain attacks sometimes a couple small changes can build up some detrimental effects. Apparently I was giving MySQL too many resources and over time it was using as much as 20GB of space when small attacks occurred. Even though the attacks were small my configuration created a larger problem.
Settings should be great now and I have even gone ahead and updated a couple important packages to the latest versions. I have basically spent the past day watching SSH and making minor adjustments to see effects.
So here's hoping that this week is better than the last. I might even be able to get some work done. There is still so much I want to accomplish for this site.

It's not really an issue completely about money. It's partially about time. A second server will require setup and maintenance. However at least we have an option for upward mobility to allow HF to grow. I am slightly concerned this past month as traffic has taken a dip for the first time in a year. I am sure it's from the downtimes. But also soon kids go back to school so it's hard to tell how we will do in Sept. I know we had a strong boost in June and I think that's because school was out.
I take it day by day but I have backup plans ready to implement.
I don't want to pull the trigger for a second server until it's absolutely needed. It's more money, responsiblity, and time. Eventually though it will happen.
yes this explenation looks logic. I also think that the traffic will be reduced maybe starting from next month when schools and universities starts.
But in general everything done to make this forum better is always good and make us happy :)

lets hope you get so much members and leet's you need the second server quickly. i know it takes time and money but it also saves downtime untill we got another generation of ddossers using like 10 different botnets at once.
but i think at some point with all setting u change and stuff hopefully hf cant be brought down anymore.
but one question because when your away the biggest attack's starts cant you get like 24/7 surveilance on the site? that you get another admin with server control on the other side of the globe who is online when you are away.

Sure but to pay someone who is at least as capable as I am would probably cost me $200+ per month. That's not worth it to me at this point.
Right now I think the work I did yesterday finally solved most of our recent problems. Server didn't even hiccup last night or this morning.

X-net that happens because Omniscient has delayed the views increasing. It now increases every 10 minutes if I remember correctly.
