It really depends on the amount of content you are going to put in the thread design.

I usually start with 1000pxx2000px.

I usually do 1200, but anything around 1000 width is good.
For height, you can always adjust it by going to canvas size in Photoshop.
Height will depend on how much info you're putting on the thread.

I use 1000px x height

I think that's become the standard.
