Editing templates in vbulletin?

So, lets say I have access to a database (not the server) of a vbulletin forum. I see that there is a table called templates. How do i determine which templates are even being used? I should be able to insert a php shell in there and get access to the server right? So far none of the templates ive edited even show any change on the website.
