Beginner's Guide for Groups on HackForums

Joining groups can be a hassle, and obviously, there are more individuals looking to join groups for the flashy userbars than there are actually wanting to contribute to a group. I've joined a substantial amount of groups over my time here on HackForums, so I've decided to write a simple guide on how you can get into a group.

Introduction to HackForums Groups
So what are HackForums groups? HackForums groups are essentially custom usergroups that are purchased by an individual granted permission to own a group. Each custom usergroup serves their own purpose, ranging from simply lounge-based groups to graphic design groups. As of the date of this thread, usergroups are available for purchase at $5,700 USD with an ownership transfer fee to Omniscient of $250.00 USD.
Upon purchasing (or joining) a HackForums usergroup, you will be met with a new subforum in the Crews and Clans Private Forums section. Inside that subforum, there could range from 0-2 additional subforums depending on the group.
As of date, how to achieve the ability to own a group is unknown. It is simply under Omniscient's discression.

Getting Started
You will need to know several things before attempting to join a group. Some of my personal tips will be listed below.
1. Do NOT apply for groups via UserCP unless told otherwise by a specific group.
99.99% of the chance, you will be denied.
2. Do NOT make a thread asking for a group. Majority groups have a specified process to join their group. None of which state: "Please make a thread telling us about how yourself." Not only will doing this make you seem like you're just wanting to join a group simply for the userbar, it also shows you know nothing about HackForums.
3. Regarding application-based groups, take your time and write a detailed application. Talk about how you're different. Obviously, groups are meant to be exclusive if you just simply make the same application another person would, why would they choose you over someone else? Think of joining a group like you're trying to apply for a job.
4. Don't PM owners / leaders of invite-only based groups. They're invite-only for a reason, if they wanted to invite you, they would've done so already.
5. Read the group application processes clearly. Make sure you abide by all of their rules, and if you're denied, try better next time. It's as simple as that.
6. Don't be a userbar whore. Not much to explain here.
7. Apply to groups that are similar to your interests. Don't simply apply to every group possible, for absolutely no reason. Revisit at #6.

Why are HackForums Groups such a big deal?
HackForums groups are such a big deal because they play a massive role on HackForums overall. Groups are meant to be a great area for users exclusive to the subforum are able to share their interests, help each other with things they may need help on, as well as overall help HackForums as a community with anything they may need. Not only this, but similar to paying for usergroups (HF L33t, HF Ub3r, HF 3p1c) the owners paying for the transfer fee are helping to donate money for the forum to run longer. I'm sure many users on the forum would easily donate upwards to $5,000 given the opportunity to help keep the forum up simply a week longer.

Conclusion
Overall, joining groups, and owning groups is nice, but there are ways you can take initiative and help out others on HackForums. If you don't get into a group you like, try another one, it's as simple as that. If you are unable to find the right price for a group, prove yourself worthy, and I'm sure many of the group owners would be glad to give you a significant discount to help HackForums groups as a whole.

I really hope this guide helped at least some of you. Thanks.

It usually goes pretty well.

Agreed, you should make that into a HackForums eBook.
Do i need to be upgraded to join a group? I applied to Unity, and i asked this, but i didnt received an answer

PD: Sorry for my bad english.
I joined all the groups I've ever been in by joining with User CP until they let me in.

Indeed I can confirm that is the same case for all of my memberships as well. Just click apply and hope for the best. You are bound to get into at least one.

Well, where did you apply to Unity?

I'm pretty sure that currently, they are only accepting members for their pentesting division. And with that said, you don't necessarily need to be upgraded to join a group (since leaders / owners can invite you), however, it would be better to be. Additionally, your join date is more than likely a driving factor to you not being accepted as well.
