Prior to joining HackForums, I questioned the reasoning behind me being on the forum and I honestly was unsure as to how long my time would stay on here. If I am going to delve into a discussion of what this forum has done for me, I first should explain how I found the forum and my initial reaction. Being that I came from another forum, I had always been hesitant to make my way over to HF – it was a much larger community and seemed more difficult to make an impact on such a large community. Regardless, as things started to fall apart on the other websites that I browsed, I decided to make the leap and buy some upgrades on HackForums. Fortunately, this decision would pay off as I would learn more skills and attributes than I would have ever considered.
As I joined the forum seven years ago, things were much different back then. Many of the old users consider this the ‘good times’ of HF; although, I just consider them the different times. During the course of that time, I have attempted quite a bit of different routes of garnering profit and growing my reputation. Fortunately for me, other aspects of the forum would catch my eye and I would take my attention to entirely different subforums on HF. Eventually, I would move towards the IT sector and would consequently begin my trek towards growing my knowledge in the field. As of right now, I have landed an IT position with a large corporation. From the salary over the past couple of years, I have since moved into and purchased my own home – you could argue that I would not be in the position that I am in right now if I hadn’t randomly found HackForums over seven years ago.
Given the previously mentioned information, I would like to further discuss the way in which I intend on giving back to the forum. As of late, I purchased a group on the forum and I intend on spreading the wealth of knowledge as much as possible. While the scene of groups has diminished somewhat in the recent years, I do have a passion for giving back to the community and I want to consequently grow the group scene back to what it previously was a few years ago. For me, this means investing into the purchasing of a group as well as the time investment it takes to create a strong and solidified community of members who are all committed to giving back as well. Generally speaking, though, my time on HackForums has been relatively long-lived and will continue to develop in the coming years – thankfully, I have learned a lot and will likely continue to learn more in the coming years.
