i was given an instruction for getting into another device with a very limited interface by connecting it to my phone "with alligator clips" and using the phone to supplement the interface of the other device. does anybody know how to do that? i'm not sure how the clips are attached/if or what other attachments id need

Be careful with that stuff. You don't wanna overvolt the phone, don't take that risk if you don't know what you're doing or it could lead to disaster.
