Do I really have to edit my picture manually to add the HF background color to it? I remember having to do this a long time ago. I see it looks fine on my profile page, though? So this is my petition to make transparent avatars work fine on posts, too.

So, the border radius turns your avatar into a circle and luckily clips off all of the white border. I threw ur avatar into photoshop to remove the background and turn it into a png. try using this? Oh that's a very funny coincidence that the CSS on the site happens to literally clip it into a circle at exactly the right place. Thnx, I'll swap my avatar now.
There are a couple types of transparencies in images. Certain types when uploaded to HF might not display the same as how it looks locally. Could be Imagemagick thing or GD library and how it might resize or alter on upload that could lose it too.
