Hello HF! Today in the name of Empire I will be
making a tutorial on how to create letter press effect text in photoshop. This is a simple tutorial and is going to be the first of many I will
be doing in this section.
What is letter press? Letter press is an effect that can
be used to create professional looking text, it
creates the illusion that the text has been stamped
into the background of your work. Letter press is
common in website design as well as in GFX.
Letter press is very easy to do once you know how and by the end of this short tutorial you should be able to do it with ease!
This is an example of letter press text.

Making the Letter Press Text Now that you know what letter press is, we will make the text.
Step 1: To start with you are going to create a new
file, name it anything you want and set the size to: 1000 x 400
Pixels (You can change this if you like).

Step 2: As it normally is with Graphic work
we are going to start with the background, you
can choose any background but for this guide I
will be using a solid green colour. (Code: 219801)

Step 3: Now, we are going to insert our
text, you can choose any font but I am going
to be using Myriad Pro in bold with the colour: 404040.
Position your text in the center of your background

and set the distance between the letters to -45.

Step 4: In this step we will be adding the
effects to our text to give us the nice letter
press look. Firstly select your text layer and hit the
Fx button or double click.

Now select Inner Shadow and change the highlighted options.

Next, click on drop shadow and change the highlighted options.

Finally choose Gradient Overlay and change the highlighted options.

Step 5: You should now have something that
looks like this.
![[Image: 2RlSf.png]](https://i.imgur.com/2RlSf.png)
As an optional extra you can enhance your background by using a brush tool to darken the corners, use a soft brush and select 500px size and 0% hardness and then slowly and carefully dab a grey/ black colour round the edges to get this effect.

There we go!
And there you have it, you should now be able to create
sexy looking letter press text, I did say it was easy, right?
