Pretty sure it's because of then ending of season 1, from what I recall he's seeing that in order to protect people he needs to be strong, and he's not going to get stronger when he's at the cafe.

That girl at the end though..? She sounded like Rize, also she called Kaneki's name.. I mean it's very strange to think that she is Rize or maybe someone that has connections/knows Kaneki really well. Also to see Touka-chan trying to get into the same Uni that Kaneki went to. >//<

She is apparently the leader of Aogiri & the bandaged girl who fought her way out of the 24th ward when she was young.
She is the writer of the novels which Rize & Kaneki were discussing in the first episodes.
Tatamuri Sen or something is her pen name.

Kaneki beat that one guy then got fucked up by Amon. I thought he was going to win but I guess I was wrong.
Can't wait for next weeks.

Also the OST was just perfect for this episode.
