Quick reply here - I posted a much longer one in the "AllCrypt is down" thread.
A) Has nothing to do with our security. We have absolutely zero control over the OMC blockchain. If someone makes a legitimate OMC deposit, and after it receives a bunch of confirmations, and is, for every possible way to ensure it's true, confirmed and "solid", they somehow break the OMC blockchain and invalidate the block, there is literally NOTHING we can do about it. About the only thing we COULD do is increase the required number of confirmations to a number so large that it makes the attacker bored and not worth his time to do.
Which makes YOU unable to use your OMC deposits or make any withdrawals from the site for an equal period of time.
Anyone here want to disable all withdrawals from AllCrypt for 3 days every time you deposit OMC? No? Ok then. I'll stick with "there was nothing we could do about it."
And like I said in the other thread, yes, I'm bristly over this. My site was personally attacked, I come here to openly and honestly tell everyone what happened, something I'd venture NO OTHER EXCHANGE would bother to do, and wind up spending more time defending the site than I do providing helpful information.
So on that note, please forgive me for getting a bit shitty here for one moment:
My site gets attacked. I get blamed. I have to investigate. I have to post these defenses in the forums...
And the best part? Once it's rolled back? MY dev team gets to spend, what I am guessing is around 20 manhours going over every OMC transaction, and every account that was affected by this, MANUALLY, to restore balances and audit everything.
For a coin that we have been the ONLY ones to host your coin, from DAY 1, that has, and here's where I get really shitty, made our site literally .24 BTC since we listed it. Yep. Roughly 62 BTC volume in the history of the coin, about .39% total per trade. $54. Cloudflare ALONE costs $200 a month, as security to protect your coin.
Wanna guess the labor costs to pay the dev team for ~20 hours of work to restore the coin? Financially it seems to be in our best interest to dump the coin, since the support base is so small someone managed to pull off a 51% attack. Could happen again. Who knows.
We aren't, because we're not assholes, and we're here to work FOR crypto, and to support the small coins no one else will.
You're welcome. We appreciate your support.
One final note: I, personally, find it fucking HILARIOUS that members of HACKFORUMS are getting pissed off and upset that the HACKFORUMS coin was hacked. Isn't this what you guys do? Just reading the other thread where I replied earlier, I saw no less than three ads in sigs where I learned I could HIRE THEM to hack someone/something.
Here is where I am NOT trying to be an asshole: If the hackforums coin gets hacked, your pulpit you stand behind to shout your righteous indignation is a really, really tiny one.
And if my reaction seems to be way overblown, it comes from being the only site to host a good many coins, that later find "success" on "better" exchanges, and we get crapped on in the process, over and over again. If it wasn't for my personal love of crypto and wanting to help it succeed and grow, I'd have shut the site down months ago. It's absurd amounts of time and money to run the site. Being shit on by the coins that I, personally, fund an exchange for them to grow on... it got old 7 months ago.
I don't post that looking for pity or a pat on the back, it's a business, ultimately I hope to see it become profitable. But my god... you could try and not kick the ONLY EXCHANGE that supports you, maybe?
