'awa is not a strain/cultivar of kava. that's just the hawaiian word for it.
Different strains/cultivars have different kavalactones and in different concentrations, and different kavalactones produce different effects.

Papa Kea
Hanakapi'ai
Honokane Iki

Panaewa
