I use a TekMat gun cleaning mat because it is much cheaper than a mouse pad of that size and it has some interesting design to it.

I recently relocated back and forth between several locations, so my new desk, albeit longer, is a lot more lightweight and mobile. It's just some L-shaped desk I found online.
