That is an over-used and over-simplified statement.

Same goes for "an eye for an eye" over-used and over-simplifieid How will one react if someone take his "leg" while the person who did it doesn't have any? How can you accurately measure value when we are the ones who create value? No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.

Profile UID: 1086891 Article: I believe we should abolish the death penalty system. Someone be convicted of a crime they didn't commit because of the error with the forensic result because of contamination or witness am lying/ withholding information about the actually happened and an innocent person is executed. Also, there have been a lot of studies on the death penalty which have concluded that the execution is way more expensive than sentencing to jail someone to jail for life. Executing someone for crimes is morally and socially wrong. Just like Gandhi said, "eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". However, I do not support criminals and crime they might have committed. I think those people who are convicted should be forced to do labor jobs such as farming, cleaning the street, or etc jobs nobody wants to do. So they are not just still in the cell thinking why should have not committed the crime.

I don't delve into the SSRP section anymore, dumpster fire of trolls and idiotic threads. (Nov 2, 2017 10:54 AM)Vince Wrote: Well if you guys are ever down to debate, I am as well. We are hoping that won't be too much of a problem in regards to the group.

Profile UID: 3680574 Article: Personally, the death penalty is ok, but at the same time it isn't. If you've done any type of research, you would be surprised at the amount of people that have been on death row who turned out to be innocent after spending half their life in a 5x8 cell.. Now the issue is that- The justice system has flaws, meaning that people who are innocent can be imprisoned for things they did not do. I can't tell you how many times I've heard innocent people say "Oh well I didn't do it- so the truth will prevail" Those people don't realize the accusations against them until they're sentenced to the death penalty for something they didn't do. Ontop of that, you have (x) amount of appeals, and then one final appeal before you are killed by lethal injection. In many cases, the final appeal will lead to the persons innocence after all this time because the whole case is reviewed. Most of the time, if it is accepted, they either get sentenced to life in prison, or are set free. This doesn't quite happen without the help of outside groups, and lawyers from the innocence project. (hella kudos to them) Now the question is, do you think the death penalty should be allowed? No by the means of potential innocent people being killed by lethal injection. On another note, our judicial consequences are supposed to rehabilitate us back into society, and that hasn't worked from the get-go and the answer isn't the death penalty. We need some type of 'reward' system other than freedom to keep people out of jail. In conclusion, however- in some rare cases of domestic terrorism, or hate crimes I would be in favor of the death penalty.

Profile UID:3100104 Article: The death penalty is a very mixed area and while I am mostly for it, there are some reasons why I disagree. Prison is looked at as a term of rehabilitation and we have seen an overall decrease on recidivism rates over the past few decades. The goal shouldn't be to lock these people up because the of a crime they committed but more to educate, develop, and rehabilitate prisoners before they are integrated back into society. I think that if we hand death penalties or life sentences for that matter to people who made mistakes but have the ability to look back and feel deep remorse for their crime(s), that the justice system gave up on them and the prison system wont help them get better. I can sit here and defend prisoners on death row, but at the same time I can talk about how I can see how it can be used a a tool for criminal justice. The death penalty does serve some benefits. The biggest role I think the death penalty is used as a deterrent. While its argued that people might not commit a crime because of the penalty, I don't think that same thought process is a hundred percent present in an offender than a healthy citizen. What I think the death penalty does provide is a tool for prosecutors to use to negotiate pleas. You can look at plea deals how you'd like though. I could keep typing but I think I ran a few words over. |
