It’s like their focus on the clock spreads and pulls everyone’s attention away from the work. Removing the clocks and staying focused on the task at hand seems like a great way to reduce that kind of distraction and keep everyone in the flow.
I like your strong stance on this! It’s true—when people are too fixated on time, productivity often takes a hit. It’s interesting to think about how much those little comments about the time can disrupt the energy of the room. Keeping the clocks out of sight could really help with focus and making the most of the workday. Have you noticed a big improvement in your concentration since removing
I couldn’t tell you I don’t have any clocks anywhere in my house apart from one in the kitchen and it’s in such an awkward location you have to really want to see what time it is to have to go look, otherwise you can’t see it. I have none in the front room, I use a Mac-mini for my media centre with HD home run and Plex as my media centre so no clock flashing at me there and it’s awesome, unfortunately I can’t work as I’ve been deemed a liability although when I have to go to meetings and stuff I just walk round, remove all the clocks and put them outside the door. I don’t even bother putting them back when the meeting has finished. It started with the noise and then I realised I was more in the moment. I don’t agree with time anyway it’s just another made up construct of control and any neuropsychologists, psychotherapists or occupational therapists that see me on a regular basis always remove any clocks before I enter the room. Some of them have little ones on their own side of the table where I can’t see. Although I can still see when they look at them as I also have hyper vigilance and it really annoys them that I can see everything that’s going on and I always make some smart arse comment like, hungry are we, or am I keeping you, I never know what’s going to come out of my mouth to be fair, it’s usually sarcastic though and sometimes downright rude, some of my therapists have resorted to wearing wrist watch’s with vibration sensors so they know when the session is about to end. I find it highly amusing that they need to know the time. Very strange. Just look out the window if your that desperate :D Try it for a while in your home and see if you feel more relaxed.
