Polymath | End of an Era | Sale | BTC/WU | BIN: $7,000

Or is it because he would own 3 groups?

Vinnie only owns Nightfall, Nobility owns Null but Vinnie bought it from what I understand. Omni doesn't allow people to own more than one group. If Nobility wanted to, he could remove Vinnie as a leader, change the group, etc. and Omni wouldn't care though Vinnie might be a little pissed lol.

If Vinnie wanted to rebrand Nightfall as Illuminati that's fine as Omni approved it I believe. But I think Omni only allows that because Vinnie owns Nightfall, he wouldn't be able to own Polymath and would have to have a friend be the owner.

I dont know the specifics on it, All i know for a fact is that he was denied to purchase the group.
I don't like that members cannot purchase more than one group, now the group is just sitting around doing nothing when other people like myself or Vinnie could purchase this group and make something out of it.

I mean what does Omni has to lose from this? If anyone goes out of line we would risk having the groups removed by Omni.. the punishment is more than fair right? ( the goon Anonymouse thought he could get away with whatever he did, he got both his groups removed and justice was served. )

Is it because it wouldn't be fair for others to have a chance and purchase a group? Because as far as I see.. there is nobody with enough money to buy one.

Now the owner of polymath cannot make the sale either because of that rule.. not fair right? the dude has been waiting Many months.

Because if this was allowed only a few members would own all the groups and they would basically run all of HF. Obviously HF is its own separate world with its own separate economy but monopolization is a real world offense and stops companies from dominating a market, allowing for others to run a business and earn for themselves. If everything was owned by Google how shitty would that be?

On top of that imagine if we had a situation where Vinnie, yourself or 'x' member was banned and closed for rule breaking and the 4 groups they owned were just gone. Imagine how much of an upset this would cause and how much work Omni would need to do to just settle everyone down.

This is why I'm openly against Vinnie or anyone buying and leading several groups. He's obviously a very smart lad and has made himself lots of money along with having so much reputation and power within HF, but it would honestly suck if only one or two people here owned all the groups.

Simple answer is, if it hasn't sold yet, maybe Lani is valuing the group and too high a price?

That rule is the best rule, what if Nokia bought all of the groups and hated 250 members who were really HQ. They would never get in the groups he owned.
The site would get boring if 2 people or even 1 owned all the groups.

I really don't see a single valid reason here, maybe it's just me.

How is it different from somebody funding a random member to buy a group for a current owner that has already one group? ( to circumvent the rule )

At least Omni would know who purchased the second group if it was allowed.

Also this has nothing to do with things being fair, this is a business and owning a group is an investment whether you like it or not. ( if groups were for shits and giggles they wouldn't cost 7K )

Anyway not trying to go off topic, GWLS Lani I hope you get it sold soon.

Nothing is currently stopping people from doing this but I'm sure if Omni got wind of this with real, legitimate proof he wouldn't be happy, or he wouldn't care if the guy who is the pseudo-leader scammed and kept the group himself.

But if you really thought of things being a business and investment then you should know Monopolization shouldn't be allowed.

I also never said a group was for 'shit and giggles'. Please don't put those words in my mouth. Groups are one of the most important things on HF.

Aren't groups all about that though, Exclusivity and having that special right of being in a certain group?

An owner purchases a group to 'dominate' and 'exclude' others from being in it? ( would that not be monopolization as well? )

It's hackforums lol I don't see it to be that serious, but I understand your point.

I wouldn't say owning a group is to dominate, when I see a member owning a group I don't think he's here to dominate but more to provide users an experience of a community; albeit the exclusivity is a main selling point.

All in all my main point is that forcing a leader to only own one groups means other people have to step up and this allows users to provide new and exciting ideas. Fresh faces means fresh ideas and the possibility for a more diverse Hackforums.

If you owned 3 groups you could blacklist every other group, member, etc. and not just your group would be in the drama it'd be 3. If you closed, all 3 groups are gone. Too much power over the groups. People like you simply trying to make money off of groups without actually caring to make it of decent quality, etc.

The only exception I could see is if you had to be approved per group you owned so that way you couldn't buy the group and did like you did with Revolution/Fortune. But then if somebody made their first group decent Omni might approve them for a second, or even third group.

Also like Happeh said, different owners brings new ideas.

Spot on.
I would love to see Omniscient take this approach towards people trying to own multiple groups. Look at the quality of their first group, then decide if they should own a second.

A second group is as far as I would go if I was Omni. Two should be more than enough for one person to keep them busy lol.

Thanks for the backup Realizm lmao.

I do like the idea of maybe a second group for those that have worked hard. That would be my limit though.

Lol no problem... was just adding my 2cents in 😝🤝

But yeah, 2 groups max.

If every single group owner had the mentality to only run the group as a business I would be very scared to see how that would turn out. Groups were originally free (The Wraith, The Alliance, and so on) and were meant to support the community. Yes, buying a group (now) can be considered as an investment but you have to keep in mind they were never intended to be that way. It was only when Omni allowed people to buy custom groups for 2k that people (like Astonish for example) saw the amount of profit that could be made from owning a group.
