I hate the subliminal messages that these movies portray. "You have to be special to do anything meaningful in this world." And as a women, "You have to be pick by this special man for you to have any worth." It's fucking horrible that we teach kids these "lessons", I am a firm believer that, along with social media, super heros play a huge part in mental illness in the world. Could cite the specific moment these movies imply that? Superman: He has super powers, only he can save the world. Spiderman: He was bitten by a spider, now has super powers, only he can save the world. Ironman & Batman: They are both rich, the make themselves machines to give them powers, only they can save the world. Captain America: He was given super powers, only he can save the world. The Avengers Saga: They all have powers, only they can save the world. In reality, there are no super powers and no super villains but there are bad people and situations in the world. These movie whole message is "unless you have superpowers you can't do anything to improve the world". But just holding a door open for someone can make their day. Volunteering at a homeless shelter, safe injection site, soup kitchen, hell even volunteering at a community event makes the world better. These movies portray that it must be a big action to save the world but in reality it's a bunch of small actions that make the world a better place. It's subliminal messaging. It's the same as seeing a fast and furious movie and then thinking ricing out your car is cool or wanting a "cool car" when you're older. They never specifically state that but it's portrayed that way and that's all that matters. Also, I'm not saying that people shouldn't watch these movies, I personally think it's over hyped and causes damage to society both in through our children as well as the popular movie industry as a whole. But this is just my opinion, that is all. Quote:I'm genuinely curious how these members were closed. Years ago we had a database user table breach. I forced a lot of password changes but there was still issues with the accounts getting stolen because of the email exposed. There was also problems with inactive members deciding to sell their accounts to scammers. So I started closing inactive accounts regularly. If you didn't log onto HF in a year you were closed. Eventually this led to 300k closed accounts. Oh, I also close accounts of members who violate site policy. But that's not the bulk of the 300k. I probably close 1-2k members each year. Zero post members get pruned already. Now with GDPR I'll prune inactive accounts too. Quote:Damn, that’s a lot of members gone. HF has had 4.2 million members join and we have about 1000 members join each day. But not all of them are active. Lots join to read threads or just make a few posts and never come back. It's a waste of resources having millions of members in the users table. It can actually slow the site down. ![]() That's awesome. Saving it for future use. :)
Haha perfect, after all these years, I now have my name with normal characters.
