Concerns about the foreign language sections.

Hello.
This doesn't really pertain to the Balkan section, as Yck and Crow can moderate it, but for example, the French, Spanish, Dutch, and Scandinavian sections have no real moderators. I don't know about the others, but as far as I know, no current moderator speaks Danish/Swedish/Norwegian. Granted, there aren't many problems in the Scandinavian sections, but there occasionally are spam posts, flaming, and sometimes people will link to other hacking sites, which is against the rules. Today, I saw a thread in the Spanish section talking about making a hacking site for Latinos only, which would also be against the rules. Of course, removing the sections altogether would work well, but I'm afraid that'd drive away a lot of members who aren't so proficient in English.

I guess the point of this post is to ask whether y'all think moderators should be appointed, or if these sections should just be removed? Or another option which I didn't think of.

Thanks for reading.

I think there should be appointed mods to each International section, I would love to moderate the dutch section.
I agree with the OP here, someone needs to moderate those foreign sections.
I told the Latino Forum to do not advertise here, and he did not.

That thread has been around since June, and you just told him in January. In any case, he replied to you saying, " no kreo que sea competencia para hf porque esta en español...
que dices pongo el domain?? "

"I don't think that it would be competition for HF, because it's in Spanish.. what do you say I should call the domain?"

He doesn't seem convinced.

In any case, I've already PM'd Omni regarding that thread. Regardless of what hapens to it, the need for moderation in the Spanish (and other) sections exists, because it's not like this is the first rule-breaking incident that has occurred there.

Would they not be hard to moderate? The member of staff would have to be fluent in many languages.

"If you speak Swedish, Norwegian, or Danish, post here."

They would have to know all three languages, fluently, and understand different dialects, not just have learned the language "formally" in school.

Obviously the thread had not been reported. Some mods contact someone they trust that speaks that language if they need assistance.
I myself contacted a member yesterday concerning two threads in the French section and together we took care of it.
Simple as that.
Cancle translate you would need the toolbar

Well, it's not as it sounds. If you speak one language, you can understand the others.

Example:

Jeg elsker deg (Norwegian)
Jag älskar dig. (Swedish)
Jeg elsker dig. (Danish)

All mean "I love you."

Jeg er fra Norge. (Norwegian)
Jeg er fra Norge. (Danish).
Jag är från Norge. (Swedish)

All mean "I am from Norway."

It's like how Serbians can understand Crotian/Macedonian, which is how they all post there despite technically speaking different languages.

Google Translate fails terribly.
It translates "Jag talar engelska som min modersmål." as "I speak Swedish as my native language." when it's really "I speak English as my native language." WTf

Minä rakastan sinua 😁 (Some of the little Finnish I know lol, I guess it fits in the section too)

I guess your right, but it's hard to pick who, not only must they be trusted by Omni, but must be fluent in English, and the other language the are moderating.

Right, except Finnish isn't related at all to the Nordic languages :)

Yes, this is a problem.

Do what staff said,
Report thread and maybe he/she will need help and ask for it to you.
Simple as that, we don't need moderators for each section in lenguage tab.

It just seems it'd be a lot more convenient to have moderators for that section, so you don't have to go through the worrysome process of making sure what the member isn't blatantly lying about what the text says. For example, I could say "Alla, lämna HF och kom till min ny sida!" and say it meant "Damn, I wish my site were as popular as HF." when it really means "Everyone, leave HF and come to my new site!". It's also time consuming.

Maybe it should be possible for us to have it all translated into english automatically? And for them the language that fits in the section automatically? That way we are both happy. It should depend were the IP is from though.
