I've had a back and forth conversation with the person responsible for the penetration. While I loathe having to do this I feel it's in the best interest of the community. I've allowed him to have an open account (still subject to site policies), upgraded him to ub3r, and given him appropriate awards. In return he's agree to not publically dump the database.

I don't think you realise that your username is also included in the leak. So it's a username change and UID change.

Of course I realise that, I'm not stupid. We can change our usernames already.

Um, yes, about the same time it takes to merge two accounts (hence changing any references to the UID of the account being merged). It wouldn't be an automatic process, that would make as much sense as manually changing the database when you want to create a new thread.

Actually no. Without actually posting the contents of our emails I can't really prove that to you. It was a rather cordial non-threatening discussion actually.

This is hardly a respected forum when it comes to that field in specific.

I'm just surprised an actual skilled hacker was that desperate to join this forum.

There are quite a few members on here that actually know their shit, and do things like software engineering for a living on here. It isn't the usual member you see on here, but I have met a few of them.

It isn't a surprise that this forum is filled with noobs since it has the Google keyword that it does. All a teen who watched "Hackers" has to do is type "hacker forums", and there it is.
