Beautiful Chalk Art from Japanese Classrooms

There's more to do at school than just studying. For example, drawing on the classroom's chalkboard. The gallery below features artwork created by students, even teachers, in all levels of the Japanese school system. Some of these drawings were done after school during club activities, while others were done during breaks throughout the school day. The drawings often times commemorate events or cheer on sports teams. Others are simply a way for students, teachers, and staff to express themselves or show their love for a favorite anime or a beloved character.

19 Year Old Creates Badass Fighting Anime

A 19-year-old in Guangzhou, China is receiving e-kudos for the fighting anime he created. With each frame painstakingly drawn by hand, this four minute long action episode gives viewers a mix of action scenes from various anime. It isn't the most high budget produced show ever made; however, when you take into account that a single person drew each frame by hand in this four minute video, you realize how much effort and work must have been put into making this.

If you want to check it out, feel free to view the video here.

Not-So-Stylish Anime Car Draws Interest Despite Its Whopping Price Tag

This is not only one of the ugliest cars made this year, it also fetches one hell of a price tag. This one of a kind car, inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion, retails at 7-Eleven for a jaw dropping 16 million yen ($134,000 USD)! If the price tag isn't enough to shock you, perhaps the amount of people interested in purchasing the vehicle will. Apparently, 7-Eleven has received over six hundred requests to buy the car since its initial listing. The company itself never planned on receiving such a large demand for the car. The six hundred or so names will be entered into a raffle later on this month to give one lucky (?) winner a chance to part with a car that will definitely turn heads when driven on the street.

Hey! I’m Buffy and I’ll be filling you guys in on the latest and hottest gaming news each week. Japan's been slaying the gaming scene as usual so there's lots to talk about! Now that my introduction is out of the way, I’d like to move on to what I’ll be discussing this week.

Final Fantasy 15! Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ve definitely heard something about Square Enix’s latest title. Whether it was the drama regarding an all male cast or the excitement of an open world Final Fantasy game - you’ve heard something! Fans of the series have been waiting since 2006 for this game, and the time is nearly here. With Final Fantasy 15’s release rapidly approaching, more and more information is finding its way onto the internet.

Episode Duscae will be the first Final Fantasy 15 demo released to the public. Hajime Tabata, the director of Final Fantasy 15, stated that it will be included as downloadable content with purchased copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD which is set to release March 17th in North America and March 20th in Europe. Footage has recently been released that includes Noctis and the gang driving around Lestallum, a town that will be central to the first half of the game’s plot.

Originally, Hajime stated that players will be able to travel by foot or car in the demo set to be released in March, but has recently backpedaled on that statement in fear of rejection from ‘true’ fans of the series. “We were planning on making the car be available to drive throughout the world and throughout the demo," Tabata told Polygon in a recent interview. "But we didn't want people to mistake it and think 'When did Final Fantasy become a driving game?'" However, Tabata reassured us that we will get to experience what the starting point of an open world in a Final Fantasy game will potentially feel like.

My head is kind of spinning after reading up on recent news. Driving? In a Final Fantasy game? I’m personally unsure about the new direction the series has taken, but I’m going to keep an open mind. I haven’t given up on Final Fantasy just yet. Below is the video which contains the footage I discussed above. What do you guys think? Let us know!

Voice Acting

Hey, Viper here back again to cover the music section and thank you Happeh for taking over while I was sick. I actually got another cold but enough about my problems, this week we'll be looking at something a little different. Instead of bands and music, I bring to you Voice Acting which are people who do the voices overs for anime characters. We will be looking at two famous anime voice actors, the first Rie Kugimiya then Hiroshi Kamiya.

If you don't already know who Rie Kugimiya is, she's known as the 'goddess' of tsunderes. Why is she so important compared to other female VAs?
That's because of her unique and squeaky voice that anyone can recognize instantly when watching anime. She has currently voiced over more than 200 different anime characters and is still active today.
Some notable ones she did would be:

• Zero no Tsukaima

• Toradora

• Shakugan no Shana

Click here and you can find the full list of all the voice overs she has done in her career.
Spoiler (Click to View)

If you don't recognize her already, this video of her performing might help you.

Moving onto Hiroshi Kamiya, if Rie is considered a 'godess' then you could say Hiroshi is the 'god' of voice acting. He has voiced over more than 200 different series just like Rie and is also easily recognizable. He has won a few awards from the Seiyu Awards and also dubbed for movies such as the Hunger Games. He is also very popular among the female anime fans since he has covered a ton of boys love CDs (homosexual love). You may not of heard of his name before but you certainly have heard him in anime.
A few notable voice overs:

• Durarara!! as Izaya Orihara

• Attack on Titan as Levi

• Angel Beats! as Yuzuru Otonashi

• Bakemonogatari as Koyomi Araragi

• Gundam

“If you stick to a "lie", it'll eventually become the "truth".” - Ciel Phantomhive

For this weeks CC, we've got some Black Butler! Now, I have still to watch this anime, but I'm more curious now. After a couple of hours of scrolling through the endless amount of submission on Exhentai and World Cosplay + a few other sites, I think I've finally come across a winner! So, without further adieu, here is cosplayer Kuromitu, bringing us this wonderful Ciel Phantomhive cosplay!

Now, on her profile page (linked below), she has endless photos of Phantomhive posted. I mean, almost 311 images of all Phantomhive. So please bear with me if you find some images on her profile that you like better. I simply picked what I thought looked the best!

Now as to why I think these pictures are the best, first off, let me say, that if you're cute and you look at me through a picture frame, you've got me hooked. On top of that, the pink dress she dons in this particular outfit is stunning, definitely A++! I like all of the subtleties that were added on the dress. From the soft pink color, to accenting Black laces. Pink and black goes so well together! <3

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a photographer for this model. :/ The photographers always seem to escape me! I think that the photographer does at least 20% of the work when doing Cosplay, because without the photographer, there wouldn't be any cosplay at all!

But enough about that, back to Ms. Phantomhive, the reason I've chosen her for this weeks Cosplay Corner is this: The sheer amount of costumes and talent put into all her submissions. Even if they are all one character, all of the outfits are beautifully designed, her pictures almost perfectly framed, and the color is exquisite!

Well, that's it for this week CC! If you're a part of AnimeFan! you can post your favorite cosplay in the Cosplay Thread in our subforum! I constantly check back on it, so if you can, post some good ones! Welp, that pretty much sums up all there is for this week's Cosplay Corner! See ya next week!

Synopsis

Yura Yamato has just arrived at the high school division of Stella Women's Academy, when Sonora Kashima invites her to join a club called "C³". Sonora is the third-year student who became the new head of this club for military survival games. The other members include two second-year students (part-Japanese Karila Hatsuse and G36K-wielding Honoka Mutsu) and two other new students (Rento Kirishima whose family runs a Japanese sweets shop and the really short Yachiyo Hinata).

Characters

Karila Hatsuse
Second year student of Stella Women's Academy. She is three-fourths Japanese. Karila is known not only for her tomboyish personality, but her single-minded character. Karila is considered to be the C³-bu's ace, known for her unparalleled mobility and expertise in close-quarters combat.

Sonora Kashima

Sonora is both the roommate of Yura and the president of the C³ club.

Tails' Opinion

This show can be described in many ways, I personally, won't bother. It touches so many opposites in just the premise its funny. Cute girls doing badass, albeit kinda fake, things. Its pretty much Girls Und Panzer with guns instead of tanks, I've never seen GUP but the idea is similar. From start to finish there is decent progression but it's not really potent. The story doesn't progress as much because the show focuses on the main character's progression as opposed to the story moving along. With that being said, it's kinda obvious that's whats happening here, still an enjoyable ride though.
I give the story a 6/10

Like I said, the show is based around the progression of the main character, so did it accomplish that? Did they make the main character grow? Yes, yes they did. I personally didn't like the change the main goes through but it did happen, then you have the rest of the cute girls doing cute and cool things. The characters are pretty good, the supporting cast doesn't really grow much, but they are still a great cast. The characters are overall loveable so I don't really see a whole lot of clear downsides. I mean, it's a character driven and focused show and it does it pretty well.
I give the characters a 9/10.

The art was good. That's a TL;DR of the art. There were times where it was insanely eye appealing and the detail was great. To say at any time that the art may have been off would be nitpicking a little. It was just good.
I give the art an 8/10.

The idea behind this show is fun. Its a show that appeals to the lighter audience and the action audience. It offers a bit of everything except romance and I think it makes for an extremely enjoyable experience. There wasn't really anything in the show I didn't find just fun. Except the main characters change of hairstyle. bleh.
(yeah I'm taking a point off for that. Sue me :p)
In terms of enjoyment I give it a 9/10

Programmargorp's Opinion

Recently, we’ve only been doing series that I’ve found to be either extremely good or extremely bad. So for once, let’s go with something that’s a lot more modest than the stuff that we went with before. For this week, we have Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu.
Oh wait, this is by Gainax isn’t it.

Surprisingly enough, Stella is one of those series that I found myself enjoying despite the fact that there’s really nothing that called it out to be different. As in, there isn’t any real story beyond a bunch of people deciding they want to shoot each other with airsoft rifles. You see, Stella is one of those series that you just turn your brain off, sit back and watch.
If there’s one word I should use to describe Stella, it would be “Bland”.
The plot was nothing but bland, the characters were bland and overall the art was pretty bland too (although the action scenes were done well, kudos to Gainax).
There really isn’t much to say about this series, so I’ll just stop here.
Now it’s time for the most important question of this whole review, i.e. should you watch this?
The answer: Maybe.

Stella is one of those series that doesn’t really have much going for it, but doesn’t suck either. If you’re looking for a series that lets you kick back and turn off your brain for a while, this is your thing. If you’re looking for another Texhnolyze or GiTS, then look away.

Tails' Rating 8/10

Programmargorp's Rating 5/10

Title - SHION OF THE DEAD
Title in Japanese- 詩音 OF THE DEAD

Chapters currently released - 20*
Author – Muroyoshi Takashi (ムロヨシ・タカシ)
Artist(s) – Muroyoshi Takashi (ムロヨシ・タカシ)
Released - Jul 21, 2014 to ?
Status - Ongoing

*Since MAL stated that this was unknown I had to look what the latest chapter to be put online was...
This means this may be wildly inaccurate.

Synopsis
Shion Shoji, 15-years-old (?), is a brilliant and gorgeous high school student!! Tsubasa Raimi, the lucky boy who sits beside her, is torn between whether or not to ask her out. Because, I mean...she's totally a zombie!! Get ready for surreal gags and modern, refreshing, and slightly bittersweet school life, because even zombies need love!

Characters

Yes. That's meant to be her guts coming out of her stomach...

Good at what exactly?...

Shion Shoji
Shion Shoji is a 15 year old high school girl with a difference. Now when I say "difference" I mean a BIG difference. Shion is a zombie.
Described as both cute and funny but also ridiculed due to her inability to control her "condition". Her guts tend to fall out...

Tsubasa Raimi
Tsubasa Raimi is a young 15 year old boy who is in Shion's class. He is rather quite and shy but doesn't hesitate to speak his mind to those he feels close to...usually.He really want's to ask out Shion but's struggles too much.

Vandie’s Opinion
Today we have yet another character driven story with little to no plot focusing on anything other than the character's relationships. SHION OF THE DEAD is a comedic zombie-human love story set in a high school. This means that many situations the manga puts the characters in are either funny or just down right crude. The manga's story is great however and really allows for some good character progression. The simple gist of it is Raimi likes Shion but struggles to ask her out.Plot done.
The story gets a 7/10

As this is a romance manga, the characters take the center stage and as such all situations are of their own making. The characters of SHION OF THE DEAD make for an amazing set of interactions due to Shion being a zombie and thus being able to do some really rather strange things. She is a relatively cute character with not all that many friends however Raimi likes Shion. His Problem is however is that he is relatively shy... and seeing your crush rip of her hand to have it do tasks for her would freak anyone out...
The Characters get a rather lewd 8.5/10

The Art in SHION OF THE DEAD is not the best. Although the characters are well drawn, almost everything else looks sloppy. For instance rather than using a proper background Muroyoshi has used large circles, repeated to fill space. Now this a technique that is used in some of the better art owning manga when the reader wants to be drawn away from the background. Unfortunately however Muroyoshi has used it constantly... Resulting in a tacky looking art style that irritates me slightly. Due to this and the fact that almost any gore is censored (which means that about 30% of the manga is censored)
The art gets a rather depressing 4/10

When reading SHION OF THE DEAD, I must say that I enjoyed myself. It was a good read. Maybe not the best, but a good read all the same. It is one of those manga that you enjoy for the characters and not anything else. This means however I cannot give it that high of an overall score. Once again , SHION OF THE DEAD is an upbeat comedic love story that can make you laugh while simultaneously making you want to say "Kawaii" at the top of what your lungs will allow. And as much as it pains me to do so, I am a reviewer and as such
SHION OF THE DEAD receives a rather low 6.5/10

Thanks for reading my section again guys, I know that a lot of you enjoy reading AA weekly so I request that if you can, do send a PM to me requesting a manga as I feel kind of stuck when it comes to picking one out at the beginning of each week.

Again. Thanks for reading.
Signed,
Vandie

Fate/Hollow Ataraxia
Be forewarned. Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is a direct sequel to Fate/Stay Night and spoils ALL routes and revelations within the first 20 minutes of reading. I highly recommend you read through Fate/Stay Night completely without knowledge of all 3 routes, ESPECIALLY Heavens Feel. You will not know wtf is going on or why.

Spoiler (Click to View)Synopsis:
Bazett Fraga McRemitz, a member of the Mages' Association and a master in the 5th Holy Grail War, wakes on the fourth day of the 5th Holy Grail war with a new servant, Avenger, and no memory of what happened to her beforehand. She and Avenger set off to fight and win the Holy Grail War.

Meanwhile, Shirou Emiya lives a peaceful life with all his friends from the 5th Holy Grail War. After her experiment alters the event-horizon and changes time and space, Rin Tohsaka leaves for the Mages' Association in England to fix things. The Servants sense a new danger while dark creatures appear soon afterward. Shirou, as a precaution, sets off to ensure nobody is in danger and instead finds himself frequently meeting a mysterious girl, Caren Ortensia.

Story review:
Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is set in an alternate universe where all three routes of Fate/Stay Night have happened in one way or another. However in this universe no one has died except Kotomine Kirei (Lancer's master in Fate/Stay Night) and all servants are still present in the world even without the Heavens Feel event in motion. As such the story is interesting to say the least.

The way the VN is played is not like your usual VN. You have a day phase and a night phase. You can visit two locations during the day and one during the night. The time of day/date all have different events during different parts of the day.

With the above said, you will not really be reading this for the main storyline. The slice of life elements and side stories are the meat and potatoes so to speak of this VN. It does have an overarching plot to explain why you're picking phases that is interesting but can be a tiny bit bland. However still very enjoyable overall especially if you are already sucked into the nasuverse (which you probably are if you actively sought out to read Hollow Ataraxia).

Sound:
Hollow Ataraxia has an amazing soundtrack. If you liked Fate/Stay Nights tracks then you will like Ataraxia's.

Art
As per above if you liked Fate/Stay Night's art then you will like this art. I will still include some samples however.

Overall Satisfaction:
I sought this out because I loved Fate/Stay Night which is most likely why you will as well. It builds upon all of the servants characters amazingly and you will love it just as much as I did, if not more.
Story: 7/10 (You want to play this for the SOL.)
Sound: 9/10
Art: 7/10

Interview - Nine

Angel: Hey Nine, how are you doing this evening?

Nine: I'm doing well. I just finished watching some of the current anime which aired today. How about you?

Angel: I'm doing well, especially since it's the weekend. What anime did you get caught up on?

Nine: Caught up on Kuroko no Basket 3rd Season as I just finished watching the other 2 seasons yesterday. Also caught up with Rolling Girls and Durarara S2.

Angel: I've heard really good things about Rolling Girls, how is it so far?

Nine: So far, I'm really liking it. Have a feeling it will be a good anime for this season. The art is nice, the characters seem nice, and has a good vibe about it.

Angel: Cool, cool. Rolling Girls is definitely sounds like a good show to pick up. Anything else you find promising this season? I'm watching quite a few shows myself.

Nine: Assassination Classroom, Death Parade, Durarara, Kuroko no Basket, and Tokyo Ghoul are some which are my favorites so far this season. Expect all of them to be great.

Angel: It's actually kinda funny seeing you watch anything other than something magic related. Why are you so interested in magic related anime? You obviously know what to look for when it comes to magic as you've given me a couple of recommendations and the shows have been wonderful.

Nine: I have been watching some magic anime for this season, but I'm not expecting much from them at all. As for why I'm so interested in magic related anime, I just tend to find them more enjoyable to watch than others. Anime in particular are Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, Magi, Zetsuen no Tempest, Fate Series and Fullmetal Alchemist. They all have a great story, characters and an interesting use of magic which makes me like them so much and the genre as a whole.

Angel: I agree with all four of those, they're all wonderful stories and I feel that more people should consider watching them. Moving on, what got you initially interested in anime? What was your first show?

Nine: My first anime would be Dragon Ball Z which I watched about 10 years ago. Wasn't aware of the term "anime" back then since I was like 6 years old, but I did enjoy the show. Besides Yu-Gi-Oh, I didn't watch anything else back then, but I then came across Soul Eater when I was on Netflix 4 years ago and that was what got me interested in anime and made me continue watching it.

Angel: Ahhh, I remember watching Dragon Ball Z way back in the day and thinking Gohan was one of the most badass characters I had ever see. I'm sure you've heard of the "big three" when it comes to anime, you know, Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece. What is your opinion on these shows? Do you think another show will be ever be able to attain the status any of these three have?

Nine: Teen Gohan was my favorite character. It’s sad seeing him turning into an fgt when he grows up. As for your other question, never seen any of them so I can’t say anything from a viewing perspective on how they are. Out of all of those, I think Bleach is the only one I would like if I watched it since I've seen some footage of it and it seemed pretty cool. I doubt any show will be more popular or as close to those three. The three have made a huge name for themselves and it will just keep growing in popularity.

Angel: They kinda just pushed him to the side in my opinion, I mean at one point he was the strongest character in the series. Out of those three, Bleach is the only one I've seen and to be honest, I enjoyed it. The first two arcs (around 100 episodes) are actually pretty decent. But I think you're right, those three have attained a status that's really hard to come by in the anime industry. Well I'm sure you're aware by now, but an official anime group, animeFan!, has been released on HF. What are your thought on this group? Will it be successful? Is it a group you would be interested in joining?

Nine: I saw the idea of an anime group being brought up a while ago and I felt it was a good idea. Could help bring more attention to AA. Depending on what the group does, it could be successful. Maybe like a group activity where all the members host a contest, or have an event including the rest of HF such as watching anime together. Again, I just feel it depends on what the group does as a whole. Maybe when I can write a better application, I'll apply for the group.

Angel: I see. I might apply sometime in the future but I just don't have the time as of right now. As for activity, I think the group has already brought new life into the AA section. Do you think this is a short time consequence of the group or do you think the section will only increase in activity?

Nine: Hopefully the activity is something that will last. I love the AA section and seeing it completely dead on some days is really saddening. I guess only time will tell though.

Angel: I know what you mean, but activity isn’t always a good thing in my opinion. Well that's about all the time I have for now, I really appreciate you taking the time to let me interview you. I know it can be kinda stale and boring, but seriously, thanks! Before I let you go, is there anything you would like to say to our readers?

Nine: I’m 9

Thanks for having me. It was fun.

Last week was skipped
Sorry about the skip, AA Weekly was meant to come out last week but we had to skip it. I had a lot of exams and a few members on the team had personal issues which delayed us a little. [Buffy Summers]

Nice release this week. I like the games article.

Thank you and thank you Tweety for the welcome! I'm glad to be a part of the team ✌

[Albert]

Er mah gerd, that fighting anime by the 19 year old was on point.

Thanks for the info Tweety.

[ℳanny]

I like how you got Shion of The Dead there!! It's awesome and people should definitely check it out!!
Once again you guys made an awesome series. :)Keep it up!

[Nine]

Nice issue. That 2 minute fighting anime was pretty cool.

[Toonami]

I've seen a lot of art done with different mediums like charcoal (my favorite), salt, even blood, but I haven't seen chalk art lol. That's pretty cool how the teachers let them do that. When we did shit like that back in middle/high school the teachers would erase it with no mercy.

Ever since I saw a video about how a studio creates the animations I've had a renewed respect for animation in general. Despite that video looking simple, I can imagine that kid painstakingly drawing each individual line hoping that the end result would be perfect; mad respect for the dude.

Unless that car's art was designed by someone involved in the N.G.E. project, I don't really see the appeal of it.

I thought those were jalapenos on the burger. Turns out they're fucking capers and olives.

I like that chick's voice in the first song. I think her soft voice compliments the screaming of the other member well enough to give a nice balance. That second song was some good shit. Instrumental songs are my favorite and the fact that they had a girl drummer made it even more awesome. The melody played on the keyboard just brought everything together in my opinion. That's the first jazz submission I've heard and a very good one at that. I actually liked the lyrics and the English of the vocalist was exceptional. I initially thought it was an English speaker at first.

The only other game I've been waiting longer for is KH3. FF15 looks too damn good. Even though the last one I played was X-2, I hope the combat system and overall feel aren't too much of a departure from the series. I mean, at what point do you consider it a game that has evolved versus a game that doesn't feel like FF anymore? Also, Cidney (not Cindy) is my favorite character at the moment, sorry Noctis.

Those voice acting videos were really cool. I especially liked Rie's. I almost died of cuteness overload when she was eating that bread.

There's a reason Kuromitu is in the top 50 and I can see why. A myriad of poses, lovely backgrounds, and excellent use of props. Choice selection this week man.

Another day, another entertaining issue. Congrats to Buffy on joining the team, I'm sure you'll do well in your position. I expect to hear about KH3 in a future issue (once more info has been leaked about it) ✌. Thanks for getting this issue out guys, it was a pleasure.

[Rakshasa]

Holy fucking balls, that short animation blew my mind. Simple as it may look, art and animation are two entirely different things. For a 19-year-old with likely little to no experience, the fight's choreography is out of this world.
To stress this further, I suggest you all to take the time off your day and watch this presentation on Sakuga in animation: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL...BLhONu0WLg

On a different note, Kugimiya Rie's voice drives me fucking crazy. As many characters as she has voiced and despite how much I hate every single one of them, she's not even a good voice actress. Makes me wonder why on earth people enjoy listening to the noise of neutered squirrels so much, I could list a dozen better voice actresses just off the top of my head.

Fate/Hollow Ataraxia was pretty meh in my humble opinion.

Vandie, use mangaupdates.com for the scanlation progress of series. Shion of the Dead has 22 chapters out. https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=113177

That will be all, thank you.
