First contest: There will be a qualifying round in which the contestants will have from the time they read the post until the night of the contest to prepare themselves. The qualifying round will have incrediblly transparent rules. Even though the goal will be a subjective one, the rules will be described as objectively as possible. The contest will be for the person who has teh coolest, ricest and awesomest desktop. More points will be given to technical accomplishments, such as custom built scripts, as where points for aesthetics will take the lesser part of the point scale. Screenshots are required, and for animated things it is suggested you provide video or GIF to show the full glory to the judges. If you wrote or edited code to achieve something ricey, cool, or gorgeous--it is suggested you also provide code. if you would like to provide your dot files (.files), it is highly suggested you do so. You are not limited by OS, if you want to enter as Mac, Linux or Windows or--hell, you might even get extra points just for being an Amiga.

No, but for real. You may have seen that Malvager is throwing a shindig and as part of it, we are having some contests. This one is has 2 rounds: first round is a qualifier round, it has no prize and it starts now. 10 people will be selected for the 2nd round, which is the prize round. Should you win, you will either be PayPaled or WesternUnioned the prize.
So how does it work? Aesthetics and ricing are pretty subjective, so how are you going to judge that? Well they are, and that kind of sucks, but it's kind of awesome too. We will have a minimum of two judges, me and Psycho, and possibly a third Malvagerite judge. "HEY! That's no fair, you'll just have someone from Malvager win!" No one who is currently a member of Malvager may enter the contest.
I know I will award points based on ingenuity and customization. I will award heavy points to any one writing custom scripts and providing the source to those scripts. Psycho will tell you about his judging style.
What is the minimum you need to enter? A single screen shot. However, it's going to make it a lot easier for me to judge your awesome customized conky script that does cool animated stuff if I can see the animation. So you can send screen shots, video, your dot files (.files), custom scripts... you know anything that's going to help us judge. If you're wondering how to share all that junk, you may just want to gzip it up and serve it as a public share on Dropbox account--or whatever your perferred method is. If you qualify, Round 2 will be on the 26th starting at 11pm GMT.
Round 2 Will have a different set of rules, and they are intentionally obfuscated. That being said, I promise the skillset that gets you to Round 2 is the same one you used to qualify in Round 1.
