New Unofficial Group - Mediators

Mediators
==========

Mediators is a new unofficial group, and we are looking for potential members who think they may be interested in joining this group. We are looking for a small number of mature members with a professional and helpful attitude to join our group, who do not have any notions of status associated with group membership, and who have no interest at all in joining a group just to say they are a member of a group. There are many, many, many far more prestigious groups than ours (hell, we don't even have a logo), who are much better at monetizing, and we aren't trying to pretend our group is worth all the trouble of applying. Nevertheless, this group is technically open for membership. The group will have a meeting place to chat, and possibly a forum elsewhere.

Stated Purpose: We are an unofficial programming-oriented group that uses mainly open-source languages within the bounds of the group. Some users may be directed to familiarize themselves with a programming language or web technology if they are lacking, and we will provide guidance on this. Besides what is stated above, our activities are entirely private, and our membership criteria is also private and known only to ourselves. There is an emphasis on loyalty and secrecy. This is far more important to us than the skillset you are coming with. Skills can be taught, but trust and loyalty cannot.

There is a long-term monetizing aspect to the group, but our actual goals are known only to a few trusted members, whose identities may or may not be known to other members. We may work on group projects for the purpose of monetizing, but not all members will be eligible to work on all projects. Some activities will be compartmentalized and known only to those who are involved in them. Our activities are secret for a reason, and that reason is only known by the highest-ranking members and the people involved in those activities. We have no interest in becoming popular on HF, we do not want badges or rep, and we do not desire any recognition for our activities. We work for ourselves, individually and as a group. We are an organization and will operate as one, and in an organization you do not spill company secrets.

Any member who is caught or suspected of discussing any group activities or interests outside the group, even the slightest comment in passing to their own mother, will be banned and will face swift repercussions from all members of the group. Every member is bound to the highest secrecy, even after they have been kicked out of the group, and the group will react in unison if a member violates that secrecy, in every possible way that we can conceive of. Every member is obliged to act in support of the group in order to protect the group and punish violators.

We will reach out to whomever we feel would be a fit for our group. The ultimate decision is entirely that of the highest-ranking group members, the status of whom may or may not be known by the group as a whole. There is a very long and unusual (emphasis on unusual) application that people can fill out below. The application should be PM'd, as there are some semi-personal questions you may not wish to answer publicly. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER ANY PERSONAL QUESTIONS AT ALL IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO. ALL QUESTIONS ARE OPTIONAL, BUT PLEASE SHARE AS MUCH AS YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH. We may or may not answer your PM right away. If we do not answer, you may have been rejected, or we might be hanging onto your application for possible future membership.

We do not claim we are elite, important, or special or anything like that, and we are not trying to be bossy or get into people's business, nor are we trying to "judge" anyone. We ask personal questions because we like to get as wide picture of who the applicant is as possible. We want to know who you are personally. We do not think we are special and we aren't trying to upset anybody. All questions are totally optional, and we only want as much as you are comfortable giving us to help us get a feel for who you are. We are not in a huge rush to get members, and we are looking for people who are willing to put trust in the group even if they are not privy to all of its activities. We want loyal people we can trust, and who trust us. We are looking for applicants, who may be screened further or asked for additional information. Nobody has to answer any questions if they don't want to, and we are not trying to say that we "deserve" this information. Many of these questions are just to get people to open up a bit. Trust and secrecy are very important to us, and we would rather never grow as a group than to grow in the wrong ways with the wrong kind of people. This is not a casual group just for the purpose of having a group, and we really want to know who we are dealing with. Do not give us answers you think we want to hear, because if we suspect you are lying we will probably pass on you. If you don't want to answer a question honestly, it is best to not answer it at all. If you aren't comfortable sharing information, please do not give it to us because we don't want it.

We need programmers and web designers/developers, or people who are willing to actively learn in those areas. If this is not you, you may be eligible if you are willing to take some personal time to educate yourself (your progress will be periodically reviewed). We will provide you with a well-defined learning path including learning materials, and we will periodically check that you are sticking with it and making progress. Generally you would benefit from this learning in a general way that would be applicable outside the group. We will try to give you a learning path that is both relevant to the goals of the group, and relevant to your own learning goals. If you really have an interest in web design we will probably guide you into HTML and CSS, and maybe design theory, and not ask you to learn Java, for example.

**** PM THESE ****
I've never used to term 'tl;dr'. But would that not fit right here? Good luck with applications anyway.

EDIT: Sorry, that was pretty rude. But nonethless, your idea is interesting after actually reading it. Just try and shorten it a bit.

Np, I had to look that one up but I don't take offense at it. :)
