I never actually tried it myself but it seems like it only works with Chrome.

All I did was change my email and then back to my current and checked to see if I got an email.

Yahoo, Outlook, Live, Hotmail, and AOL all work with HF but may experience intermintent problems with delivery.

Personally i use an outlook alias for hackforums.
The first email from HF was indeed marked as spam but if you confirm it's safe future emails will be delivered without any problems.

Ok well after changing my password last Tuesday after getting 4 emails from HF in my inbox .
Was a bit confused after getting those emails in my inbox and no messages in my inbox on site i was kinda wondering it was pretty strange to recieve no pm on site regarding this !
I have now done it again and yes it now says Last Password Change: Today
So all in all thats it done and shows its been changed ...

Everyone should have 2FA enabled by now, especially if you value your account in anyway here. We should let regular members use this feature for free.

It's too much of a problem with lost 2FA access to bother recovering free accounts. Even if a non-upgraded account is stolen or shared it's not nearly the same risk to the community as an upgraded account. Also let's say a non-upgraded account is stolen, then upgraded. I normally catch the account theft at the point of upgrade and close it.

Eventually as I tighten up account security it might be true that all accounts will have 2FA access but that has to be when I will never recover any lost accounts at all.

Of course that's going to happen. You'll know it because you will logged out and your PW will not work. On the login page and PW reset page I will very likey have clear messages to members what and why is happening.

A simple way to check if you're getting HF emails is to enable email notifications for PMs.

Then send yourself a PM. Yes, MyBB allows you to PM yourself.
After you verified that you get emails you can uncheck the option for email upon PM.

I understand their hasn't been proof that the DB was leaked but it seems like most of your security measures are for upgraded members.

Upgraded accounts also pose a higher risk to the community when stolen so they get priority on security and resources. A stolen non-upgraded account is practically worthless to anyone. If your non-upgraded account was indeed stolen would you really care that much? My guess is you'd open a new account then upgrade it for the extra security measures. In such cases I often get contacted to merge or close the old account which in many cases I do.

Go to Gauth page and validate a current 6-digit code. At this time it doesn't count login usage as recently used. I will be altering that asap.

Not if you used it to activate Gauth. If you uninstall the app and didn't save your key you are screwed. 100% on the Gauth page please save your key somewhere. It's vital you do as a backup.

This makes 100% sense since they're more valuable of an assent over a member like me and thousands of others who haven't spent money on this site, but should we do anything to secure our accounts? I will be changing my password soon and starting to use a password locker for all my passwords but apart from that can non upgraded members do anything?

Probably best to just make sure your password is completely random and not used on anything else. And really if you value your account should probably get upgraded because it's the best option if you want to secure your account.

Not 100% correct.

I used outlook and it completely blocked HF emails after awhile. I never marked them as spam or blocked sender and couldn't get my emails to send through.
Contacted their support and they said they block HF emails due to "malicious content" and to have Omni fill this form out and blah blah.
Maybe it depends where you live cus some people have no issue at all, but then there's those like me who could not get it to go through no matter what (even tried adding @hackforums.net to safe senders, etc).

Outlook is known to have issues with HF, others not so much.

I suggest everyone use protonmail.com, there's even a PIN to login for extra security.
