I'm confused. Not because I'm not aware about the "password", but I can't really understand what you're saying.
Do you think we have to research this image with "Steganography".
Sorry I can't really express myself as much as I'd love too, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
I'm asking if you think we should "decrypt" this message by using "Steganography".
What I'm aware of so far:
- Folding the paper is NOT going to help
- According to you it's NOT about the animals that are telling a "story" combined
- The original image is a .jpeg, not png.
- The cicade 3301 is a group of "individuals" who are high intelligent and used "Steganography" before to hide a message in an image
- The "puzzles" are active from 2012 as far as my knowledge
- One of the solved puzzles, was leading to a lot of number which ended in a .onion site (which isn't really allowed to discuss here, so I'll keep that part away from HF posts 🤐)
I'm very curious how this is going to end / be solved.

The "original" image is the one given to us by the OP. "She" created it and is not associated with cicada 3301 and neither is this puzzle - I can tell you that for a fact (besides using stenography) The reason it's a png is to hide the rar.
The animals may be associated with the passcode in some way but I don't believe it will be in any of the information you listed- while it's all one piece, 4 animals doesn't create 5 characters.

I thought she received the puzzle from a member (the link included).
I wasn't aware of the fact that she created it.
I though assume(d) that it was from Cicada 3301, due to the animals print on the picture (like they're doing in their puzzles).
About the rar..
You're saying it's a rar file that needs to be "cracked" with a 5 character password?
Great job so for fam, I'm new to stenography, cryptograhpy ,etc.
All I ever did was decrypting passwords with Crypo (256 decryption, etc).
So could you teach / help me how to "figure out" it's about a .rar.
I'm trying to expend my knowledge as much as possible, yet there aren't always great tutors to teach you what you'd like to know.
I deem you as very HQ, although I can't say I'm pleased with every post you made so far, most of them are very HQ and you're one hell of a smart member.
If you're willing to tell me how you figured out it was a rar file, I'd highly appreciate it.
My "thing" is online sales, SE, e-whoring and CPA marketing (SEO a little bit).
So I can proof you, if you like, that I'm not a "retarted scrypt kiddo who earned a few bucks with luck" 🤝

He looked at the file size and saw that it was too large to only contain an image. We then went to WinRAR/7-zip and attempted to extract the file contents, but it was password protected.
The password is made up of 5 mystery characters + ▲. So, AAAAA▲ for example. We're searching for clues but also bruteforcing the password because there aren't many leads so far.

A) The correct password is obtained.
B) The correct password isn't obtained and we've done something horribly wrong. We're (well, Mr. Robot anyway, he's the genius here :P) almost certain we're using the correct ascii triangle. If we aren't using the proper one, then this process repeats.
If anyone has a working rar cracker that can take advantage of a GPU and utilize that ASCII character set, I'd be more than happy to sick my 970 on it, but last I heard that search was coming up empty.

Okay, thank you :)
I read from page 6-8 a few things about brute forcing, but when I saw the amount of "combinations" that could work, I skipped the next 4 pages.
I read page 12 and found out / read that Mr. Robot was very deep thinking about this, which triggered me to think along and post how I thought about this.
I had no idea that I've been spending that much time without thinking about checking the image file, although I did read some articles at Google about putting images into other images (like the child-abuse commercial, which is only visible for kids too see a certain part of the poster).
I never thought about another FILE in the image.
Thanks for the clear-up, you're helpful as always fam! 🤝

I found a .rar cracker that was CUDA-enabled but it wasn't freeware.
Also, if it turns out that we've been using the wrong ALT+30 triangle SOMEHOW then I'll cry myself to sleep lol.

Appreciate the kind words VB but it basically comes down to what Minimalist says here.
Checking the file in a text editor for hidden code and the fact the image was a png in a challenge scenario screams there's a file inside.
After checking and finding that, we have to go back to the image to try find a passphrase to unzip the rar.
Eventually finding the small text on the image itself that tells us the passphrase is "5mysterycharacters+alt-30"
Alt+30 being the triangle which is Illuminati's main thing ▲
We need to find 5 characters to fit that mark and it could be more ascii, uppercase, uppercase+lowercase, uppercase+numbers, uppercase+letters+numbers, or all of the above with symbols.
For all we know it could include Chinese characters which would make this 10x harder unless we actually find that character in the image itself.
Maybe try find the animals characters in greek or similar? Who knows at this point.
Password is 6 characters total with the suffix ▲
I already tried running all lowercase permutations with that suffix with 0 results and numbers so it excludes those entirely.
*for example
aaaaa▲
11111▲

Damn, just removed the image because I thought I had the wrong one.
Will try it again (takes a while tho, busy at home taking care of stuff unfortunately :/)

Thanks a lot for the details, you're truely amazing (you + Minimalist) for doing this.
Many "smart" members are too cocky to help out those who seek to gain more knowledge. (Using "" because some members think they are smart, while they are not).
This is really helping me, motivating me again to "crack" the puzzle!
What I'm thinking (first thoughts when reading this).
You say there are 6 characters, but why does it end with a ▲.
U said it could contain chinese characters, which mean you should put the ▲ in the begin of the password, not the end.
Could it be a possbility that the ▲ is used more than once although it's not mentioned?
Like "▲eyec▲. (Eye = the "eye" in the pyramid) and C because it "see" everything?
Anyway. thanks for the tip.
Going to download the image again and zoom in to take a look at what you suggested me to do.
Many thanks, again, for the both of you.
And @OP:
This thread / puzzle became WAY more interesting than I assumed when I clicked at the link to this thread 🤗

Also yes as you said it can contain more ascii key codes such as alt+30 but then there would be no point in specifically pointing out that there is 1 alt+30 at the end of the passcode. Does that make sense? There is no reason to say there is ▲ at the end of the passcode if there were more characters similar in it.
That would lead us to assume all capitals for the 5 characters or a mix of Ualpha numerical (Aa1) Symbols I highly doubt as 5 characters is still significant and it would be hard to hide a symbol mixed with the letters/numbers in the image/images influence elsewhere.

The first two images have the .png extension while the real one has .jpeg!

I'd just like to say that there is nothing unique about the image host I used to host the image, or any other variations of the image that have been reuploaded. The original image is "step1.png", the same one in the original post.
