Not looking for a VPN atm, but this is really nice of you to do.
Somewhat sketchy, I must admit, as its your server and you can completely monitor this as much as you want. I'd say if you have the money to pay for an actual VPN, do it, but if not, I might even say this is potentially worse than not even using a VPN at all. In the event that this guy is a fed, this is a very clever way to catch some kids ratting.
