I think he wants to make more money. For example he has only $200 to invest. Then he borrows $100 from you. He can now invest $300 total. If you win then he takes 80% of your profit. That is $80. He will get $200+280 profit back. He now has $480. If he did not borrow the money, then he would have $400.

But if he had $200, then he would have enough to bet for his own and sole benefit. There'd be no reason for him to risk a loss of the invested amount for a ROI of 80% when he could risk a loss of his invested amount for a ROI of 100%.

Maybe he wants to help people to make money or he wants to make money faster. He could've made more money if he invest $300 from his own pocket. 300+300 profit
