Overheard a conversation that I don’t think I was meant to hear.
Was in a shared workspace earlier today with headphones on, not really paying attention to anything around me. At some point I paused my music and realized the two guys at the table behind me were talking about something technical, so I couldn’t help but notice bits of it.
At first it sounded normal, but then they started mentioning specific things that lined up a little too closely with a system I recognize. One of them even said “it shouldn’t show up unless someone knows where to look,” which immediately made me uncomfortable.
I didn’t turn around or react, and after a few minutes they stopped talking and left. It could’ve been nothing, but the timing and phrasing stuck with me more than it probably should have.
Am I just being paranoid, or would that mess with you too?
sounds to vague to arrive to any conclusions

depends, are you worried about technical espionage or blackhat backdoors being planted over time and used later?
is there any hints at a financial crime?
This could be completely normal though... It could be a weird edge case bug with software, maybe they implemented a weird workaround that works but is not best practices. Maybe there's a potential bug that COULD happen but likely won't until a certain metric (ex: bug won't come up with less than 1 million rows of data).
Keep an eye on it, but don't overthink it. Maybe they're talking about a scavenger hunt, or a present for the boss.
Write it down in a diary though, you will forget certain details in years from now.

Why are you not capitalising your first word in your first sentence? What is with that? Why are you doing it? It is against the Help Docs.

Quote:Use proper grammar and punctuation.
Posts should be readable. Use capitalization and punctuation where appropriate.
Believe it or not there is a latency delay that is slower than my speed of typing for my current keyboard+connection on certain keys, so in the last few months I have been more likely to ignore capitalization.
I will try harder to make sure i am following the rules fully

You should ignore it. Listen from one ear and let it go from the other. It doesn't concern you, so it's not your responsibility.

Haha. How did you even noticed that? Sharp eyes.
Full blown grammar police

Just keep an eye out for the possible effects, but don't worry about it if it doesn't affect you.
if you dont think it affects you, dont worry about it, that would be what i would say.
unless you can figure out precisely what it is and report it for reputation which can help your future in your career

I think you're just paranoid. There's no context and how often do you hear such convos and are they employees or random people?
