Server Move

Good shit Omni, very much needed. Smooth move?
I haven’t been on much lately but I assume everything went smooth. Please don’t have Stanley take over full time man, that just spells disaster.

That's something so valuable, you wouldn't know if you didn't own shops.

Yes React is wonderful and todays standard yeah yeah yeah, but when you already have a well written site why would you port it? The performance can't be much greater, really not. In fact, I could argue it would take a shit ton of time to get a react port of HF board to be on par with current performance. Also, from scratch is a terrible idea; We have trouble getting you guys to write threads, be active etc and you want a whole new board from the ground up?

Omni clearly stated he's using the little time he has on migrating servers, the fuck you suggesting a whole new board for?

Look, if you guys want a more modern round and flat feel to the UX suggest a new theme.

Also please do not mention the DB as if the man hasn't been optimizing that for years, you have to know HF has done more migrations in the past, more optimizations and so on. Everything is buttery smooth except for the backup connection pool.

The server move is for headroom, so we can implement more features and have a more headroom whilst doing so. There's 1 thing that could seriously benefit from a rewrite or new version and that would be the v2 api, I believe there's already some momentum for this with user like xadamxk offering their expertise for it.

I don't know, it doesn't seem hard in all honesty. I'm not suggesting a new board, but if you want flexibility just create what you want. A server migration won't fix activity either, and neither will faster SQL returns. Caching won't make the board more active. PHP is fast and always has been, but if the worst is a server migration there are bigger fish to fry.

A new server also doesn't make for new and more features...

I'm still working on it. Server is mostly setup, now for the HF PHP files updating. Each step is time consuming. This is actually the hard part.
I wish you the best of luck… you’re now in the “patience” phase....iam sure If you take your time, we’ll come back to find a very solid and fast forum .

Thats exactly why he did it.

Alright, it seems that Nash is a little bit right… but maybe the people want a general change for everything at the same time, if possible.

Honestly, I don’t understand these matters, so I’ll just stick to being a supporter in the football stadium.

Appreciate you outlining this for us to also follow along with you.
Question, are we all going to be logged out and need to log back in?

Most likely yes.

He has to restart the entire DB along with any active nodes and sessions. Curious how it will work with Convo sockets this time around, but the last server switch (2015), we were all logged out and forced to log back in.

Most likely, yes. We will most likely lose our sessions / cookies, but this is preventable... Just not worth the effort possibly.

So, basically... I would say most likely yes!

Potentially because sessions are stored in DB in a memory based table. So it will get wiped. But then again not necessarily because if your session isn't that old it might still work with MyBB interface.

Are you worried you can't login to your HF account?

I used encrypted passwords and a password manager on an old laptop of mine that I don't use. I mainly only use HF on my mobile now.
