On Sept 29th I plan for HF to move to the new server. The work is going very well so far and I'm getting confident.
I'd like to quickly outline how I expect things to go and what you can expect too.
I'm finishing the php fixes this weekend, where all our codebase is upgraded to be php 8.2x compatible. Big task but I've already started and it's looking reasonable. Using Python scripts and AI to accomplish the bulk of it but also hand-edits too. Once I'm comfortable that all main pages are working error free we're basically ready to move. I don't think I'll be doing it Monday but if the schedule permits then so be it. The sooner the better imho.
On the move Convo and the Notify socket will not work. They'll be broken until we're actually on the new server. I anticipate 2-3 days to get those back online.
For the actual site move, HF will have to be "closed". You'll get the MyBB site notice that we're moving along with some instructions. I'll then do a fresh dump of the database after the close so that no data will be lost. I'll move the db and change the sites DNS. The new server site will be opened and if you're lucky your DNS will update fast enough to be one of the early visitors.
On the new server I'm sure I'll be getting reports from members about error messages. I'll actively fix them as they come in. Most of the time it's just simple syntax issues where PHP 8 is more strict than 7 was. All our code logic still should work.
I look forward to this upcoming week and finally after years of wanting this to happen the moment is almost upon us.
Thank you.
Any questions feel free to ask.

Exciting news for us moving forward
Quick one, do you think the site will be down for a day or two or just a few hours?

It's just the database dump, move, and insert time that we should be down.
Dump = 20 minutes
Move = 30 minutes
Insert = 60 minutes
So around 2 hours is a rough estimate.
Your DNS update for resolving to the new server might take longer. That's not up to me. If you're mobile, it could be up to 2-3 days. Likely changing your DNS resolver to Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 would make it faster (will be part of the instruction message when site closed).
Oh, I'll also have real-time updates on HF's X account. https://x.com/HackForumsNet Follow if you wish to get notifications.
Best of luck, should feel good to have this experience under your belt.
Exciting times! I'm glad I got my Flip Reaper before convo going down haha. Good luck with everything

This will be the 4th time HF has moved to a new server.
Right now I'm spending about $200 on AI API tokens to run a script that is uploading every php file of HF to process for creating a diff file to upgrade for php 8.2 compatibility and then making the file change.
I'm stoked. It's going well. I estimate 6-10 hours until it's complete with the automated process. Then there are some logs for me to manually review and of course a lot of testing.
I'm probably being too ambitious about a Tuesday move but I'm still trying to make that the target date. Deadlines are nothing but inspiration for me to work faster and harder.
We're getting so close.

What's your go to AI for tasks like these or daily driver?
something something something Award for first 50 visitors? something something something
I look forward to seeing how blitzing the new server is. Good work on the progress Champ.
My life's goal is to bully Stanley into admitting he's only here to steal bytes.

I'm really excited to see what happens. I can't wait! Best of luck, my friend. I expect you'll face some problems at first, to be honest, but I think it'll be worth it.
Limited offer
Signature space ... 1k bytes per week

OpenAI's ChatGPT.
So far it just seems to stay ahead in terms of features.
I have Grok as well. Don't currently have Claude.
The work is slowing down. At the phase where I'm doing manual fixes and edits one at a time. But overall the site is working on the new server it's mostly just Undefined Array and Undefined Variable warnings.
I see no reason why tomorrow we can't move.
I've always said that for a week or two things will be broken once we move. That's not changed. Convo is definitely going to be offline for a time (1-2 weeks?).
Stay tuned. Tomorrow it's GO TIME!
It's move day.
Give me 2-3 hours and HF is going to get closed while we move.

Less than an hour remaining before we go offline.
