Restrictions Lifted on Maine Man Arrested for Explicit 'Anime'
On Thursday, a Superior Court justice in Maine dismissed all bond restrictions on a man who was arrested last month, but not formally arraigned, for possession of "anime" depicting children in sexual situations.
State police arrested Joseph Audette, a 30-year-old computer network administrator for the Deer Isle and Stonington school system on Deer Island, at his home in Surry, Hancock County on October 3. The police's Computer Crimes Unit had linked him to a screen name used on sites that contain child pornography, and a search of his home computer allegedly found sexually explicit images. Audette resigned from his administrator position on the day after the arrest.
Mike McFadden, a special agent with the state police, said that "local kids" were not depicted in Audette's files; instead, his computer had "anime" depicting children in sexual situations. McFadden noted that if Maine's ongoing investigation against Audette does not lead to a formal arraignment on charges, the federal government can step in. According to McFadden, the images are illegal under federal law, but not under Maine law. He said that the investigators were disturbed by what they found and added, "None of us would be here if we were talking about a couple of images."
The state did not file a formal complaint against Audette, so the bond restrictions that were imposed on him were dismissed on Thursday. Before the dismissal, Audette was previously restricted from contact with children, all Internet access, and later just Internet access to sexually explicit materials.
Gonzo to Collaborate with Singapore School for Animation Training
The Gonzo anime studio is partnering with Singapore's ArtFusion Media School to create a new anime-style animation school. Developing anime training overseas and expanding the medium into foreign countries while remaining centered in Asia is the program's main goal. The rising demand for anime and its international popularity also inspired the collaboration's creation.
Established in 2007, ArtFusion Media School already offers courses in 3D modeling, character animation, conceptual art, and digital visual effects. The new partnership will offer short-term classes intended for foreign fans of Japanese animation. Gonzo states that while a large number of anime fans live in Singapore, there is little Japanese-style animation training available in the country.
The partners also hope to create international licensing agreements to accommodate other countries' desires for education in anime creation. With that goal in mind, Gonzo and ArtFusion Media School plan to offer long-term courses in their anime education program in the future.
The collaboration recognizes that there are many anime fans in foreign countries who may want to create anime, but the inability to travel to Japan, difficulty in understanding Japanese, and other obstacles prevent them. This project's creators want to help aspiring anime developers overcome such hurdles.
Tiger & Bunny Anime Gets 2 Films Starting in 2012
The staff of the Tiger & Bunny anime announced during the Hero Awards 2011 event on Sunday that production on two films has been green-lit; the first film is planned for next year. The staff previewed previously unseen footage at the event.
The event was held twice during the daytime and nighttime; the daytime attendees were asked not to reveal the announcement until the end of the second event, but the time that the embargo was supposed to end was miscommunicated as 8:00 p.m. (6:00 a.m. EST) instead of 9:00 p.m. (7:00 a.m. EST).
The "Hero Awards 2011" event itself will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 20. The event was the first phase of Tiger & Bunny "Next Project," and the two films are the second phase.
Twilight's Kirsten Stewart Offered Akira's Kei Role

The Twitch website is reporting on Tuesday that actress Kristen Stewart (Twilight, The Runaways, Snow White and the Huntsman) has been offered the lead female role of Kei in Warner Brothers' live-action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira manga. In Warner's film, Kei is described as "a young medium who becomes the love interest for [male co-lead] Kaneda."
The Hollywood Reporter entertainment trade magazine reported earlier this month that Ezra Miller and Alden Ehrenreich are among the top contenders for the pivotal role of Tetsuo in this live-action film adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira manga. Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) is in talks for the other lead role of Kaneda, which The Hollywood Reporter described as Tetsuo's "older brother" in Warner's film. The Twitch website and The Hollywood Reporter previously said that Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech), Gary Oldman (Dark Knight trilogy), and Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean films) have all been approached for roles.
The Actors Access website for acting employment opportunities posted casting calls for the characters Yamagata, Tetsuo, and Ky in September and October.
Update: More background information and images added.
Update 2: The Hollywood Reporter trade magzine's Heat Vision blog reports that the role is named Ky Reed, "a woman who is part of an underground movement to expose the government for turning orphans into living weapons. She may also possess some abilities herself."

Mushishi
![[Image: 30699.jpg]](https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/5/30699.jpg)
Genres: Adventure, Mystery, Fantasy, Supernatural
Synopsis
“Mushi”: the most basic forms of life in the world. They exist without any goals or purposes aside from simply “being.” They are beyond the shackles of the words “good” and “evil”. Mushi can exist in countless forms and are capable of mimicking things from the natural world such as plants, diseases, and even phenomena like rainbows.
This is, however, just a vague definition of these entities that inhabit the vibrant world of Mushishi, as to even call them a form of life would be an oversimplification. Detailed information on Mushi is scarce because the majority of humans are unaware of their existence.
So what are Mushi and why do they exist? This is the question that a “Mushi-shi”, Ginko, ponders constantly. Mushi-shi are those who research Mushi in hopes of understanding their place in the world’s hierarchy of life.
Ginko relentlessly chases rumors of occurrences that could be tied to Mushi, all for the sake of finding an answer.
It could, after all, lead to the meaning of life itself…
