Posting this in Site News in light of the recent issues HF faced with Trustpilot's slew of fake reviews trying to make HF look bad (and failing in the end). I thought this article couldn't have come at a better time.
On August 14th, 2024, the FTC announced a brand new (final) rule for banning fake reviews and testimonials.
./source #1: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/pre...stimonials
./source #2: «« 16 CFR Part 465 - Official PDF link »»
╰─▸ ./summary: "The rule will allow agency to strengthen enforcement, seek civil penalties against violators, and deter AI-generated fake reviews" (as well of a mention of no more offering payment incentives from websites & brands for good or bad reviews)
This is all what looks to be great news for the online review industry. I'd imagine soon in the near future that sites like Trustpilot, Yelp, Glassdoor, G2, even Tripadvisor, all will enact new policies in their TOS in order to comply with the FTC's new final rule. Such as closer review monitoring, actively removing existing fake reviews, possibly even adding review approval (like the BBB already does for example) - overall just a crackdown on all these fake reviews that plague these websites, which in turn only hurt the site being reviewed. I can see some AI software being used to easily & conveniently comb through all the fake botted AI reviews (and remove them), basically a fight between AI & AI. Who will prevail? Lol.
I'm sure this is a refreshing sight to see for all, especially for website and/or brand owners everywhere.
Do you guys think this will have a positive impact? Negative? Nothing at all? /discuss
