New FTC Final Rule - The end of fake online reviews
Posted by: Cooligan - Aug 18, 2024 11:07 PM - Forum: Site News - Replies (11)

Posting this in Site News in light of the recent issues HF faced with Trustpilot's slew of fake reviews trying to make HF look bad (and failing in the end). I thought this article couldn't have come at a better time.

On August 14th, 2024, the FTC announced a brand new (final) rule for banning fake reviews and testimonials.
./source #1: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/pre...stimonials
./source #2: «« 16 CFR Part 465 - Official PDF link »»
╰─▸ ./summary: "The rule will allow agency to strengthen enforcement, seek civil penalties against violators, and deter AI-generated fake reviews" (as well of a mention of no more offering payment incentives from websites & brands for good or bad reviews)

This is all what looks to be great news for the online review industry. I'd imagine soon in the near future that sites like Trustpilot, Yelp, Glassdoor, G2, even Tripadvisor, all will enact new policies in their TOS in order to comply with the FTC's new final rule. Such as closer review monitoring, actively removing existing fake reviews, possibly even adding review approval (like the BBB already does for example) - overall just a crackdown on all these fake reviews that plague these websites, which in turn only hurt the site being reviewed. I can see some AI software being used to easily & conveniently comb through all the fake botted AI reviews (and remove them), basically a fight between AI & AI. Who will prevail? Lol.

I'm sure this is a refreshing sight to see for all, especially for website and/or brand owners everywhere.
Do you guys think this will have a positive impact? Negative? Nothing at all? /discuss

  Ub3r Junk Returns
Posted by: Omniscient - Aug 15, 2024 10:18 AM - Forum: Site News - Replies (16)

I have enabled Ub3r Junk. It's shown on the bottom of a thread (Desktop Mode Only).

It's set the same as when it was disabled. You can only Junk one thread every 24 hours. There is no Bytes fee, which was a feature I was contemplating for a while.

If you want to delete your entire thread history one day at a time, go for it. I'm not going to consider it abuse.

Enjoy.

EDIT: For the new members who don't know what this feature does, it moves the thread into a JUNK forum that's out of public view. Junk forum also gets purged very regularly so within weeks or even days of being JUNKED, it gets fully deleted. It JUNKS the entire thread, all posts.

I also want to say that the feature is likely going to experience some alterations depending on our needs. Unsure if I want to restrict Junking threads in Marketplace which might have Contracts attached. We'll see how it goes.

Posted by: Omniscient - Aug 1, 2024 12:40 PM - Forum: Site News - Replies (547)

Just like in April for our 17th's anniversary HF is having another 1 million Satoshi giveaway. It's over $1000 worth of prizes we will be awarding.

Prizes:
#1 500,000 Satoshi's
#2 250,000 Satoshi's
#3 150,000 Satoshi's
#4 100,000 Satoshi's
#5 5 Permanent Ub3r Upgrades
#6 5 Permanent L33t Upgrades
BONUS: A Lucky Award to all winning members.

The Permanent L33t upgrade will only be granted to regular non-upgraded accounts.
The Permanent Ub3r upgrade will only be granted to L33t accounts.

How do you enter? Every single post (does not include private group forums) that's within HF policy you make on HF makes you eligible. The more posts, the greater your chances of winning.

As a twist to the previous contest, the top prize winner will only be granted to a thread creator. The thread must have at least 5 replies to be eligible. This means you're greatly encouraged to create new threads that people will respond to.

Contest starts NOW. I will draw winners first week of September. Only the posts from August 2024 will be eligible.

Caveats: Satoshi's are the smallest subunit of Bitcoin, which is 100m per BTC. In case we forgot something we retain the Right to update the rules.

Any questions?
