  Crypto Risk Score Tool
Posted by: Omniscient - Jul 2, 2024 12:56 PM - Forum: Site News - Replies (24)

I am in discussions with a company which offers and API to do crypto risk assessment. It's about $300 a month.

I could add it to our Hacker Tools page and charge a Bytes fee (500-1000 bytes) per check.

In case you're not familiar this is a way to enter a blockchain address or TXN ID and get a score on the risk of that payment/address. This is often what triggers KYC companies to hold your funds, reject them, or even close your account. This is a way to ensure payments you get at HF aren't corrupted and going to cause you trouble.

I'd like to know that if I signed up for this would members be willing to pay the Bytes fee and do members consider this a useful tool? I'm certainly not going to pay $300 a month only for 10 uses per month. To make this worth it, should be used 10 times a day at least.

I was hoping that the API would be per check but they have a minimum.

LMK what you think about all that.

  Downtime June 23, 2024
Posted by: Omniscient - Jun 23, 2024 08:46 PM - Forum: Site News - Replies (23)

Looks like around 5pm (GMT -8) server went offline. Related to hardware failure which the datacenter has fixed.

We came online within minutes of this post (8:45pm) so we had less than 4 hours of downtime.

All system should be normal but report to me anything NEW that's not right.

Never worry about HF going online. I'd rebuild this place within 2-3 days on a new server with a backup.

Since we no longer have Twitter the best way to get updates if we're offline is actually our TG group.

Thank you.

EDIT: Quote from Datacenter.

Quote:An issue has been detected with one or more RAM modules.
We have replaced the faulty RAM module(s).
The server is booted on disk and is on the login screen. Ping OK and services are up.

I've known for a while we had at least 2 bad RAM modules. This actually might fix some other server errors I get from time to time.

Group Contest to Earn +1 Popularity
Posted by: Omniscient - Jun 19, 2024 12:38 PM - Forum: Site News - Replies (23)

I have a concept for a Contest between the groups where the winning group earns an additional +1 Popularity Power.

The only thing I need to figure out is what metric should I use to measure who the winner will be.

Asking for some feedback on the contest and what metric members think could be used.

I was thinking potentially referrals but the account would need to be upgraded into l33t. So each group would be responsible for trying to help HF get new members. L33t only would be counted to avoid and minimize cheating.

Do you have any other ideas that might help? Looking for ways to promote HF and increase quality.

  Hacker.im XMPP Closed
Posted by: Omniscient - Jun 14, 2024 08:58 AM - Forum: Site News - Replies (34)

I've had the XMPP server running for years. Barely any usage. I prepaid the server for 3 years, it just expired and was suspended and I'm not renewing.

The page has been removed from the Extras listing as well as from the Upgrade page as a L33t perk.

Sadly not enough usage for xmpp which imho is far superior to TG or Discord. Is what it is though.

Thanks.

  Good Will Monday #14
Posted by: Omniscient - Jun 3, 2024 09:02 AM - Forum: Site News - Replies (50)

Since 2010 we've officially had an HF Holiday called "Good Will Monday".

https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=466320

Please take the time today to give positive Popularity to your fellow HF members. Let's spread cheer and good will across HF. Especially to new members.

As a nice option I have added "Good Will Monday" as a Popularity choice.
